I have two that have worked very well for me.
165 gr Trophy Bonded Tip; 43.4 gr Varget; 2820 fps; 0.75 MOA - Elk at 181 and 243 yds, deer at 220 and 80 yds.
175 gr Terminal Ascent; 43.2 gr Varget; 2596 fps; 0.55 MOA - deer at 195 and 310 yds. Haven't taken it elk hunting with the TA load yet.
I'm running 175 TA's on my 308. Also the 165 TBT's. I can get well below 1 MOA with either. Great bullets. Couldn't find any 155 gr TA's for 7mm when I started developing a load. Found the CX-150's worked great and stayed with them. Otherwise I agree, just stay with the 7mm Rem Mag.
I'm shooting a Hornady 150 gr CX at 3175 fps out of my 7mm Rem Mag. 0.5 MOA with my handloads. With a suppressor, the recoil is very mild. If a belted cartridge bothers you, go with the 7MM PRC. Otherwise, stay with the 7mm Rem Mag. If you drop to the 7mm-08, just go with a 308 and take...
I am the opposite. I hunt solo in a tipi from 1st rifle (mid-Oct) thru 4th rifle (end of Nov) and take a stove with me everytime. I've had some of my worst weather (snow/cold) in 1st/2nd rifle and I am usually camped between 9500 and 10000 ft. I like to be able to fully dry out and warm up at...
For late October hunt in CO mountains (9900-11000 ft), my pack is coming in at 23 lbs excluding my rifle. I carry down jacket and pants for glassing sessions so this adds a little extra weight along with overnight survival gear.
Like in all things, there are exceptions. I have two Kimber rifles, a Classic 308 with a wood stock and a Mtn Ascent 7mm Rem Mag with the soft-touch stock, that both shoot sub 0.75 MOA with handloads. Their actions are butter smooth but I will admit the triggers could be a tiny bit crisper...
Pot calling kettle black.
The story centered around "Trash, human waste, graffiti, and crowds are threatening the fragile [Enchanteds] alpine environment. Volunteers say years of federal staffing cuts have left this wilderness on the brink." So yes, asking the "users" to pay more to use the...
BS. RMNP requires a timed entry reservation with associated fee during certain parts of the year and if you want to access the Bear Lake area. This because usage demand is higher than what the resource can accommodate. RMNP is hardly at risk of falling to a PLT.
Parts of the Maroon Bells...
Where did I say PLT was needed? Are you really that dense? The article states:
'Sarah Shaffer of Wenatchee Outdoors said the situation seems to be getting worse. “There’s poop just on top of rocks with toilet paper on top of rocks. It’s just a really crappy situation," she said.
Volunteers...
Being respectful of the area (packing out what you take in, not defacing the area with graffiti, etc.) and just being a decent human being seems to be a foreign concept to most people. Lack of FS personnel isn't the problem, lack of character is. Not to mention the nod toward influence...
Sawdust mixed with melted parafin wax - pour it into mini paper muffin cups or egg cartons. Easy to light - burns long enough to really get damp wood off and running.
I'll second Leupold. Had a rifle take a solo trip down a steep chute while elk hunting. 100% my fault. Was concerned the internals were damaged along with the front scope cover that would no longer function and which I could not remove given how much damage there was. Leupold replaced both...
No disagreement. And if the OBBB resulted in an additional $750M projected revenue deficit on top of the original $1.2B deficit, then the case should be presented as such. The reality is that the CO Dems are casting the original $1.2B deficit as a OBBB impact and trying to campaign on that...
