35 can be a tough area to hunt. The last 5 years the first sign of pressure the Elk come off the mountain onto private and stay all winter. I hunt antelope and whitetails on private in that area and seen more Elk than deer.
In my experience an Elks home range is very large, they will have several spots like you described. They will travel between those spots at random, but will return, it might take them up to a week or more. If you have the time they will return, even from year to year.

I have had success letting a heard bull and his cows bed for a couple of hours.Then getting the wind right, getting in close, Bugle. Getting into their bedroom can really piss them off. But you have to have a pretty good idea where they are bedded.
