    Idaho M/S/G ‘24

Anybody else getting a case of the decades of unsuccessfulls? I've put in for tags for 28 years in Idaho now and drawn 2... I've drawn more tags in a single other state as a non resident than my home. Deer, elk, antelope, swan, turkey... 75% odds in some cases. Year after year. No dice.

    No Moose for Me

Odds this year on sheep where pretty shitty too... at this reduction rate I'll be better off buying points in wyoming!

I'm in for sheep again. At this point I'm now exceeding the random "odds are x percent, you should draw every x years argument." So we will see.

IDAHO 2024-2030 Draft Elk Management Plan comment period.

Got mine in. I suggested in the few areas above objective if they start adding hunts to do lesser weapon hunts. Short range, muzzleloader, or in my area a traditional archery season before before increasing rifle tags. Rifle success odds are pretty high. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather see a...

    Little piles of white papers

When I'm hunting areas with softer dirt I'm mad when it's not buried. When I'm hunting rocky areas where you're lucky if you can dig 1/4 inch of pine duff, I don't mind those little white warning flags so I don't step in it again. But at least throw a few rocks on it!

    The Devil's Lettuce

As a son of a woman with M.S. who is wheelchair bound due to nerve pain and numbness, as a friend of cancer patients who have a tolerance to narcotics, as a brother to a spine trauma victim who has been prescribed methadone and become addicted, as a husband who's wife has nerve damage, you no...

'Yotes: What to do with carcusses when pelts have little value?

Probably a great time to buy if you can vacuum pack and freeze them after drying. Could you imagine a freezer full of prime western heavy coyote you payed $5 to $15 for.

    Idaho ending OTC?

Good. Pretty much every state around us is going that way. Not to mention we pretty much already do it with random number selection on tag sale days.

    Recurve refinishing/limb twist question

Lower limb twist is usually from poor storage. Like setting it upright and leaning it against the wall or in a corner of a closet. Correction can be pretty easy or involved. Depends on what it's made of. Sometimes twisting it over corrected several times will do it. Then store it flat. Sometimes...

    Custom Recurve feedback?

That's definitely on the list to do. I just want 2 or 3 of a few models before I go. So I actually have something to show and demo. I don't want to show up and say, "Well I build bows bit just trust me they are nice....". If I can hold onto a few demo bows I'll head that way. Maybe I'll get to...

    Custom Recurve feedback?

Thank you for the honest input. I'm glad you mentioned different designs because that's what I've put my effort into all winter. Glad you confirmed it's time well spent. So far most of my bows have been 3 piece recurves. That was my biggest request so that's what I went with. That particular...

Time to play politics. Help me move these rule changes through the process at IDFG.

Man, you're getting beat up here... I get the premise of what you're going for. I really do. I watched an old guy finally draw moose after 36 years of applying. His average odds, 1 in 4 random. I don't think people realize 1 in 4 random DOESN’T mean at 4 years you'll probably draw, it means...

Going to be a lot of boating accidents!

Why would they ever NEED a registration list? It's the hot thing to post pics of you with all yours saying, "Govment ain't ever gonna know I got 4! Merika! #howwouldtheyknow #postyourstoo #photosarentproofright?"

Sometimes it's not just for you

Honestly I think it's being perceived as more desperate than the situation was. He was wet but definitely not in peril. In my mind it takes several things to get you killed. Cold weather, wet, not enough time, etc. He was layer up pretty good. Me being there in the situation, if he had insisted...

    Non-resident Idaho tag frenzy

Ah I see your perspective. I worked in law enforcement. Yes I've pulled people over for speeding. Yes I've let people off for minor stuff. I've also felt completely fine handing over a citation for excess. And YES! since I've switched careers I have cited people as a citizen. You know you can...

    Non-resident Idaho tag frenzy

I try to give a few the benefit of the doubt. I get it. If you're not from around here a two track can be considered a road. This was ridiculous. They drove around the sign saying it was closed and motored across open sagebrush. This wasn't a case of confusion. It's blatant don't care let's get...

    Non-resident Idaho tag frenzy

I was just trying to make sure they knew the deer was there. Did you miss the part where they were on a closed road. They had to off road through sagebrush to even get to that old dozer line. They were 2/3 of a mile from the closest trail... I've seen the "Who cares I'll just pay the fine."...

    Non-resident Idaho tag frenzy

It used to be 5 to 10 percent of nonresident hunters made the rest look bad. Lately it seams like 90 percent make the rest look bad. Let me describe opening day of deer in my area. I've hunted the same unit religiously since I was 13. That's 25 years now. Before sunrise I parked my 4 wheeler...
