Hello all, my Dad who is 73 burned all of his points and drew a 128 tag this year. We are in Iowa and have hunted Eastern WY and MT mostly but we decided to give a mountain hunt a try. He is looking for a decent buck. Anything mature would be awesome. I’m not looking or expecting details or spots but if anyone has hunted that area before and could give some guidance, I’d be grateful.

Never hunted there, because never drew when applied as a resident, but from what I hear you will have a blast, congrats to your dad for drawing and good luck on the hunt 👊🏻

Congrats to your dad! I hope he gets a good one. I've never hunted in Wyoming but I have lots of friends that do and they bring back good bucks almost every trip. I don't know where they go but if your dad had points to burn my guess is he is in for a good hunt!

Good luck! I will be up there next week hunting cow elk. That’s the best deer tag in the state in my opinion. You will see countless mature bucks and this big snow we are getting will get even more bucks down to the winter range.

Well we had a great time in beautiful country. We saw hundreds of elk, a few moose, sheep and deer. My Dad ended up shooting a nice buck on Saturday morning. It was probably the second biggest buck we saw and the biggest deer where we had a shot opportunity. I don't think the deer numbers were what they have been in the past, or at least the buck numbers weren't. We didn't see any successful hunters this past week and the cow hunters or locals who were just driving around looking for game thought the numbers were down. I'm not sure if the deer were not down to the winter range yet or the rut was late? Overall I think it was a mistake for the state to increase the tag quota in 128 from what we saw and experienced.

Awesome! Looks like a great time. Is the buck laying down in the sagebrush the same buck your father killed?

Carl, we didn't have any pictures of my Dad's buck before he shot it. It was a buck that all of a sudden showed up and we had to make a quick decision. The 2nd and 3rd pictures are of the same deer. The farthest right picture on the top row was the biggest buck we saw.

Good job. When I was there whitetail hunting a few years ago I wasn’t too impressed. Only saw one bigger than the ones in your pictures. Did like the AB&B you stayed in.

Congratulations to your father great buck looks like it was a ton of fun.
