My 280 AI is built on a pre 64 model 70 and it's a been a great rifle. Between my kids and I we've built a dozen semi custom jobs off pre 64 M70's and I've also got many pre 64 M70's in their original factory stocks, love them all. My advice would be to use the gibbs since as soon as the rifle becomes non factory for the most part the collector value is gone. On my 280 AI I put a copy of the winchester fwt barrel on from pac-nor, dropped in a MCM edge stock and I ended up with a great do all western rifle.
