Taking my pointer to wy pinedale region

I'm heading out to just to the pinedale region for a general elk rifle hunt of the 15th. I hear the blue grouse is good out there with some ruffed mixed in so im thinking I'll pack the shotgun in case I tag out on elk. Any thoughts or suggestions on the hunt or travel?. This the first time I have traveled any distance with my german short-hair and she will be crated. I was taking my dog regardless to stay around camp. Thanks

Nice looking GSP. Love'em but saw a Red Setter that really tripped my trigger and now have three of them.
