Don't ever want to be a parent, but feel the need to share my niece as if she were mine. She has a few obsessions. One is my cat. Another is checking the mail, so I've been sending her pictures of my cat.
Action shot of grandson Bode dismounting for tie-down calf roping. As of past weekend he stands at 4th for the Big Sky Region of college rodeo. He is FIRST in steer wrestling. The string bean skinny former soccer player has been hitting the weights the past year and has bulked up remarkably to be able to rope and toss a steer in record time.
He is also an excellent team roping heeler, but the header, the heeler, two horses and a steer have to be on the "same page" for success. "Woulda, coulda, shoulda" has been that story in the rodeos so far. Proud Papa. (He has been my consistent hunting buddy, but is kinda busy nowadays.)
Nice to see…. We haven’t seen the top due to wild fire smoke for over a month. The fire is still burning but a little bit of rain, cooler conditions and a whole lotta luck with the wind kept it to 20,000 acres. The fire is about as far to the east of the ridge as we are to the west. Greatest danger to lives and property was the eastern flank of the fire. Fire fighters did a hell of a job containing it on that side. Our side was wilderness area, the plan was to monitor and essentially let it burn.
Deer season is a week out, neither of us drew a tag…. The tall one is new, didn’t get a good pic of him. These guys are living in the riparian zone we planted 20 years ago. It’s about 400 yards long and 20 to 40 yards wide.
