Any suggestions on electronic ear plug type protection? I'm mainly focused on using it for waterfowl hunting!

Not electronic, but I use these. They are a mechanical ear protection that uses mechanical filtering for high amplitude noise. They work pretty good, but do muffle normal sound more than I would like:

Do they stay in?

They are custom molded in your ear so yes. A lot like the old mouth guard way, heat them up in water, then mold them to your ear for a custom fit.

Also following especially for my boys so they dont end up with significant hearing loss like me. Left ear is shot actually cost me DOL job.

I'm trying these this year for waterfowl. Used them for early goose and they do muffle more than I'd like. I think they'll work for duck since we sit a little closer. They stay in really well.

I also use Decibullz ear plugs for rifle hunting. They have worked well when I remember to put them in. I can see them working well for waterfowl hunting, but you will definitely have to rely almost exclusively on your vision to identify approaching birds. You probably won’t be able to hear wing beats or calling very well. That said, protecting your hear is worth the reduced situational awareness in my opinion.

I have the decibullz with percussive caps as well. Wasnt sold at first, but I got in touch with a rep there and he walked me through PROPER molding. This was 95% of the problem. Do it right and they are great. I was just shooting my 300 mag under a covered pavilion with them this weekend and they are great. I no longer wear my $400 MSAs or Peltors.

I have shot pistol and rifle (5.56) on our indoor range with them, which I normally hate, and am very happy with them. Not electronic, but you also won't feel bad if/when you drop one in the marsh.......

How is the normal hearing when you have the decibullz in? I like the idea for duck hunting but don’t want to loose my normal hearing range when talking BS in the blind.

The percussive ones are better than the standard solid caps. But they will occlude normal hearing a bit. I can have a normal conversation just fine but whispers, whistling winds, feeding chatter might be harder to pick up on...

Although I have a fair bit of hearing damage to begin with, so maybe not the best person to ask.
