i have a 12 guage that fits up to 3 1/2” inch shells, i was wondering if i would be able to shoot 2 and 3/4 inch rifled slugs through it with a modified choke tube on it?

The short answer is yes. The long answer is a shorter chamber and an imp. cyl choke would be better. The shoulder in the long chamber will affect consistency and the mod choke will be on the tight side.

As long as it's not a mossberg 835

Truthfully, if it's legal, I'd use 3 1/2 inch shells with buckshot and you'd likely be just as well off. 00 or 000 is pretty deadly at that range.
Very true, lots of people dont like buckshot but I've used 3 1/2" 00 and it is deadly at 50 yards. 18 .33 caliber pellets
