I picked the blank up for the main body of this call a while ago and just got around to turning it. It called Mammoth Kauri and here is what I know about it.
"The Kauri forests originated in the northern islands of New Zealand. It has been scientifically proven they were around before the Ice Age. According to one theory, they were knocked down by a giant Tsunami and buried in a peat bogs where they were perfectly preserved from the elements that would otherwise have rotted them away. Today, through careful extraction, these logs are pulled out of the peat bogs with heavy equipment. They are sawn up amd used in a variety of decorative applications. This piece is carbon dated to be 30,000 to 50,000 years old."
The top and bottom rim are Bloodwood, I also added in some spacers.
