So last Saturday I was on my way to check on my trail camera. All of a sudden I see what I thought was a coyote run across the road. Then I saw another and I thought this was aweful big to be a coyote. I stopped pulled out my binocs and confirmed they were not coyotes, but wolves. I was about 70 yards away. I continued on and another black one ran out and I got to about 40 yards from it. They all joined together, five total four gray and one black, then ran over the ridge. I reported the pack to fish and game. The problem is, I also saw about forty Elk cows in the same area all about ready to calf I assume. I called a local trapper and spoke with him and he said unless someone had livestock in the same area there was nothing he could do. It just sucks the season isn't open on wolves. Looks like the calf population will take a hit in this area this year. There really isn't anything that can be done and it sucks for the Elk. Hopefully the wolves will still be around when the season opens in August. Hopefully I can fill both of my tags.
