Anyone own one? My uncle gave me his father's old push feed rifle in 30-06 from Herter's. Made in England.

My first centerfire rifle was was a Herter's Model U-9 in .30-06 that I ordered from them in 1967. I also boght a Model J-9 in .308 Win from them back them that a gave to my Uncle.

I took a deer and an elk just about every year for 10 years with that rifle. Then in 1977 I had it rechambered to .30 Gibbs and for the next 20 years that was my primary elk, moose, mountain goat, etc rifle.

Sounds like you have a BSA manufactured action. They usually shoot extremely well.

"U" prefix = made by BSA
early "J" are FN mauser clones, made in Germany
later "J" and "XK" are mausers made by Zastava.

I picked up an old J-9 (I think) It's a clone mostly of a Swedish Mauser 98.
At least parts interchange.
I put it on a 6mm rem barrel.
It still has the old-style safety on the bolt but it is outstanding.
