Foraged Food Thread

not exactly foraged but some products if the garden.

Morels have been neither large nor plentiful along the river this May, but I found a few in an area where dried grass had been burned off.

I found 53 on the last weekend in April.

We found a few small ones yesterday on south facing slopes in the pouring rain. Probably just a little too early and a little too high. Might check another spot tomorrow to see what the sun can eke out of the weekend’s moisture.

Picked about three dozen morels today. It’s a little early yet.

We ended up with about 45-50 gallons between 4 of us over the long weekend. Not as good of a year as last year but still worth the trek. Found a couple burned sheds too.

Been picking quite a bit of asparagus along the canal that runs through our place.

I found a nice batch of oyster mushrooms while bear hunting this past weekend. A nice angel hair pasta with the mushrooms, bacon, red bell pepper, garlic and Alfredo sauce was delicious.

Sandplums!!

Perhaps 80% of the area bushes were devoid of fruit. Next week there will be more ripe fruit for the picking. We did well today

Some of the bounty drying after rinsing.

The bigger/lighter colored ones on the left came off of one clump we found roadside. Noticeably larger and less red when ripe. It was important that we find some roadside as Mrs kansasdad is in a walking boot with a Joél Embid style fifth metatarsal bone fracture.

Chicken of the woods, bolete, and lobster mushrooms from this week. Also managed to find a few elderberries and huckleberries.
