I’ve been really fortunate and had some fantastic hunts in 2018 and 2019. Most of my hunts are DIY but every couple years I save up and do something special. In 2018 after a couple years of saving I went over to NZ and killed a great Red Stag. It’s was an amazing fun hunt. Then last year I drew a very good tag in NM and I went out there and killed an awesome bull hunting solo. I built the elk display myself and I’m really happy with it. A couple really good friends of mine mounted them. I had a guy online cut out the metal sign that has the exact coordinates of where I shot my bull for the display. I thought it added a really cool personal touch.

I’m looking forward to another great year. I have a couple good mule deer tags in NM and CO. To top it off I got lucky and drew the exact same elk tag for the second year in a row. It should be an awesome fall. Good luck to all!

really cool thanks for sharing.. gotta ask how was theNZ hunt? That’s always been my dream animal to hunt I think they have the best looking antler configurations. Just curious was it a completely guided hunt? Was it challenging where you felt like you were hunting or was it too easy of a hunt where you didn’t feel like you were hunting? Never really talked to anyone who has done one of those hunts to really know how they are.

It was a dream hunt for me too and I had an amazing time and made a great friend. It was completely guided. With that said it was not a hard hunt so to speak. However, I did save for 2 years, travel for 30 hours and 8500 miles just to do the hunt so “easy” is a relative term. I felt it was easy bc I do mainly diy solo hunts. Mostly on public land. This hunt was private and we covered ground in a truck instead of on foot and that’s not what I’m used to. My guide told me that most guys that come are in their 60s. Very few guys my age. If I ever go back I won’t be driving. I’ll hike and glass. If you did the hunt like that it would be like drawing a dream elk tag.
