I have only applied in Utah for 3 years (including 2015) now. I managed to draw a Deep Creek archery elk tag with 2 points. I realize there isn't a lot of interest for this unit, but, that seemed to help me get to go hunt this year. That being said, what is it that turns people off about this unit? Is it the Wilderness Study area limiting vehicles ( I see this as a positive)? Is it the Indian Reservation? Is it something else?

Has anyone hunted this area that's willing to share some insight?

Thanks and good luck to everyone this hunting season.

Yes to the WSA. Yes to the Res. And IMO, two other things. It's not close to anything to get people to go there so very few folks actually know the country. It's atypical elk country. Lots of juniper and sagebrush.

Thanks for the response. The only elk country I know at all is in Nevada so this sounds like what is "typical" to me. It seems like an area that makes you really earn it if you get something... Time will surely tell if I can get it done in the 2 weeks I have.
