While I worked Saturday John went and checked 3 cameras yesterday and moved one , we’ve left out since last archery season , he deleted all but 3 pics before I got to see any of them , They were all cows and spikes and of all of the pictures apparently none of the older bulls that run with these herds have got back in with them yet , but He did send me these Along with a nice 3x3 blacktail . Nothing special but hey , there wild Roosevelt elk and I enjoy seeing them anytime of year, the dates are incorrect, we don’t always update the time and date on our cameras

Went up to the woods to today checked 2 cams and saw elk In and around as I was walking about , the best was the last bunch , I had bumped a group of elk and only saw Hiking into my last trail camera they elk went up in the thick reprod to lose me , as things got quiet, I continue to move on to my camera another 15 minutes away to get over the trail camera . Arriving I start looking at pictures on my card reader another five minutes pass , I hear the familiar sound of breaking brush , then loud snorts of breath , I can hear them trying to smell me in, I look and watch , here they come , into the meadow area thinking they lost me , As I continue to look at elk on my card reader on my phone and then I glanced at the elk less than 100 yards away feeding along the edge of the Meadow close to the brush, this went on for awhile , in all about 10 to 15 elk I think came out , As I finish clearing the pics off the camera thinking the elk we’re going to feed out of the meadow and continue east I look up no they are hooking right towards me and the trail camera heading right back to the meadow they were in prior to when I bumped them. Quickly returning the data card to the camera I turned it back on and backed out and crept away as the elk were feeding right to me . A really fun elk encounter to say the least.

the 1st elk I saw today

some of the elk I took pics of from the location of the trail camera in story.

I tried to get better pics through my binos , But there was just enough brush so close that it kind of made them blurry even though they were less than 100 yards from me

and now a few pics from the actual camera we have at that location

Thanks for the share OChris! Brings back my younger days of chasing Rosie's with my bow over the Chetco, Sixes, and Powers units...was back in my USFS days. Can still almost feel the frustration of bowstrings caught up in the tan oak and vine maple lol

Your welcome , I try to get once a week to and spend time up with the elk trying learn more about them and find areas they like and trails they use. Not everyone get to get out as much as I do so I try to share some of the adventures of summer
