Wondering if anybody has any experience loading 22-250 Ackley Improved. Just finished my build with a 26" 1-9 twist barrel. This will mostly be for prairie dogs and I wanted a good middle ground for velocity and wind deflection. I'm hoping to run 60-62gr varmint bullets (v-max or varmageddon). Slight possibility of being able to stabilize an ELD-VT if I can push it fast enough...

I know there are match bullets exceeding the weight range I'm looking at that will stabilize just fine, but I don't like how they just pencil through p-dogs before ricocheting away to who knows where.

I've just finished fireforming and wondering what powders are being used for bullets in that weight range. Other dated forums show anything from 4064 to 4831 class powders.

Please, none of that "Should have gotten a 22 Creedmoor..." crap.

I agree on the .22-250 AI over 22 Creedmoor, I like your style. Not sure on powders, other than I’ve always used IMR4064 with lighter bullets. I really want to make my old .22-250 into a 1-8 twist .22-250 AI, unless I end up going .243 instead.

So far, I'm impressed. Already .5 moa during fireforming. This is the first time I've fireformed and it's very satisfying lol.

People also complain about reduced barrel life... whatever. I'll just put another barrel on I guess....

Look at all the data you want. Buy some powders and experiment. In the end, you should be shooting the powder and bullet YOUR rifle likes. Mine was Win. 748 and 53gr Amax. It's sensitive to temp. But drills p-dogs, as far as I can do what I need to do.

Varget,h4895, and h4350 is what I’ve used
Pretty much the range of burn rates I've been getting. Just going to have to try them all I guess. Wondering if 6.5 Staball will work. Got a bunch of that too and I feel it would be pretty decent.
If you can't load it with Varget or H4350, you don't need to load it.
God's powders
