This is going to be one of the greatest adventures I’ll ever go on I think. I’ve been dreaming of being able to do a CO Velvet high country hunt for 35+ years. I was fortunate enough to grow up following the adventure of Chuck Adam’s, Larry D. Jones, Mike Eastman, Randy Ulmer, Early Cam Hanes, My dad. All of whom instilled a passion for Mule deer. Especially some articles in Field and Stream, Pertersons bow hunting in the late 80’s and 90’s. I also get to share this adventure with my daughter who is coming along for this 12-ish day adventure into CO back country!

These are a few breakfast burritos that I made for CO and NV this next week. Ingredients are as follows:
Red/gold potatoes 2 per
Than a bit of syrup
Than 1/2 cup cheese
Than 2 slices of bacon
Than about 2 eggs
Roll up tight, put in tin foil, I pack a quart freezer bag just in case I need to boil it, if there’s a fire closure. 3 per gallon zip lock.
I usually eat these the first 2-3 days when we pack in.

I hate I’m missing it but you ended up with even better company. I’m sure you’ll make it happen. I’ll be in Wyoming packing my on gear in since I don’t have a buddy with goats coming to do it for me. I’ll also have to make my own burritos I guess.

Can’t wait to see what you turn up!

I’m surprised that 5 days after your post date no one has mentioned the obvious. So I will. It is irresponsible to take pack goats into Colorado high country because of the disease threat they pose to bighorn sheep.
Please do not take pack goats into the Colorado High Country.

You did not say, but CO Sept high country mule deer often or usually means one of the above timberline early rifle hunts. All of these, I believe (off the top of my head), occur in occupied bighorn habitat.

One pack string of domestic goats brought into contact with a bighorn herd posses a real threat of causing an all age die off within the bighorn herd. For this reason pack goats are disallowed in many wild sheep area.

If after 15 min of research you don’t abandon your plan because you are somehow not convinced that it would be an irresponsible and unethical act of the highest order to bring pack goats into the Colorado high country, check with National Forest rules where you are going, perhaps your plan is disallowed.
