Last year I found success in New Mexico with my first bull. Many of you saw my post last year. A big ole 7x6 336”, beginners luck. Muzzy season. It was awesome.
I wish everyone success this year and blessings abundant.
I’ve only hunted whitetail here in Oklahoma, so going out and doing something like this was truly hunting. It’s what I’ve been desiring. I enjoyed everything about it
I reached out to several members on here for tips and guidance for my first New Mexico elk hunt. I was able to connect with one heck of a bull opening morning of muzzle loader. 40 yard shot. Probably will be tough for me to top this one. Thanks for everyone that gave input. He scored 336” as a...
I’ve found a drainage with burn on the east side and not on the west. If I sit on the west and glass the burn will there be visibility into it? That would be more appealing for rifle
That’s good info I appreciate that. I have wondered how effective glassing will be because it’s so thick and big country. I guess I’ll just see what I get into!
I like that approach and what I intend to do. Lots of glassing in hopes to catch one going from food to bedding. I’ll update the group after my hunt for sure
That’s good to know man. Some of those drainages are a mile wide peak to peak! Big intimidating country for sure. I’m excited. Most likely going rifle for that reason
I need some input. I have a unit wide landowner tag for unit 45 New Mexico. My hunt options are muzzy October 5-9. Rifle oct 12-16. My first elk hunt. Muzzy is no scope so 100 yards max but I have discovered most have said the rut is still going on during muzzy.
What would yall recommend me...
