I know this is an older thread, but I know a guy who will make a stock set for you from scratch. He'll even checker it for you. Let me know if you want his contact information.
You might need to provide the older style upside down L stock plate.
His work is phenomenal.
Just found this thread.
What a beautiful high wall !
I always wanted one of those !
Not long ago, I picked up what I'm going to call a Frankenchester.
It's a Winchester 94 and the receiver dates to 1928, the wood and short mag tube likely original to it, but the barrel has been replaced with a...
They actually answered today and forwarded me to the voicemail of someone that is supposed to be able to help.
The lady said nobody except her works on Fridays....
I know I'm late to this party, but I had picked up a custom 1999 in 338RUM not long ago.
Now I know why they haven't returned any calls or emails trying to find date of manufacture.
It's a beautiful rifle with a stainless fluted barrel and muzzle break.
It doesn't seem to weigh too much.
The...
I've owned and successfully hunted with a 2008 308MXLR which is a pleasure to shoot and thus far, has never required a follow up shot.
Longest shot to date was 150 yards and longest walk from POI was about 15 feet.
I also have an as new 308MX with original box and paperwork that I've not shot...
I believe Marlin started producing the 308ME in 2007 and Remington the 338 in 2009.
As I understand it, the barrel droop issue was found on many but not all 2009 models.
Just found this thread while looking for something else.
My .02: I took a whitetail doe 2 seasons ago with a handloaded 150 gr ELD-X out of my Marlin 308 MXLR.
She was about 85 yards quartering away down a 40 degree slope.
Hit her behind her left shoulder.
She jumped 4' straight up, came down...
I thought I did, but if I didn't, the S/S Browning BLR 81 takedown in one of several chamberings would work great. My choices would be 300 Win Mag or WSM, 325 WSM, 358 Winchester, or 45-70 in the traditional BLR depending on the ranges shots will be taken.
I've seen 30-06, 308, 7mm mag, and 270...
That's not unreasonable and pretty much at retail. The GB one was unreasonable.
Nobody wants to lose money LOL !
As an avid lever collector, I do have a clue as to their value.
I've noticed that different rifles have different twist rates.
I use this information to determine what the heaviest bullets can be properly stabilized at typical muzzle velocities.
Then I'll select a bullet weight and type for the game I'm after.
Deer are easy. I'm a huge fan of the 150gr...
Totally understand that.
I've been known to use my credit cards when something like this comes along....
That's actually a pretty low starting price for something that rare.
I'm going to keep my eyes on it to see if anyone bids on it.
I just sold a BLR 81 S/S takedown in 22-250 for $2400.
At...
Howdy all !
New guy here !
I just had to chime in on this one.
I read some valid points and many opinions.
As an owner of mostly Marlin levers (my personal sweet spot), I also own many Savage, Browning, and Henry levers as well.
What I've learned is that nearly every one of them has the...
