Once my wife heard a bull bugle, she has been hooked. She is all about the archery elk. Just the thrill and chance at seeing/hearing them is where it’s at. While my wife has too hunted and harvested whitetail, mule deer, black bear and antelope….nothing will compare to elk for her! I say go for...
Great idea. I can’t wait to give it a try. So far, the elk/deer steaks that I have done on smoker have dried out, but the idea of putting in the pan should help hold the moisture.
Here in Wyoming, my taxidermist has done dozens of mounts for me. Quickest was 5 months (he took it to state taxidermy meet ) longest is 18 months. I have not pushed him for any of my mounts, and I have never been disappointed in the quality of them either. I would guess that if it took 2 years...
If you are only wanting to kill a deer, no issue in 46. If your looking for a trophy be prepared to put in the time. Love the mountain mulies. Do lots of glassing and hunt near tree line for the big ones. No info to offer for 41.
I used to buy a new bow every year or two….. did that for a long time. I now shoot a PSE X-force that is almost 10 years old, and have had no reason to upgrade, it’s quiet, quick and nothing is wrong with it. I will probable look for an upgrade in the next 2-5 years. I guess it depends on what...
Agree with the .30 caliber, my favorite for hunting white tail in brushy area is my 45-70….take the neck shot and there is no tracking, no bullet deflection from any brush that may be in the way.
No experience in Colorado, but I have hunted all over Wyoming, I would recommend archery as well. Typically you won’t battle severe snow. Not as many hunters compared to rifle.
Odds at bringing in a shooter will be a lot better if you have a caller or two set up. We also had better success using decoy cow for visual to get them in quicker and closer.
The timing that you are planning should be prime for rut. While the bulls are talking the 1st of sept, they don’t seem to be serious that early. The second year my wife drew, we planned on hunting the last 2 weeks, and 1st morning out, had him down by 7am and loaded up heading to meat locker...
The hunting wasn’t great thru the tornado zone the year it happened but may have improved since then. The roads and atv trails make “lazy” hunters hang around them, but getting off of them a bit will put you into them.
The info that game warden gave you is all correct, super dry this year. There are several springs in the unit that you will be able to focus time on. We spent the majority of our time on south portion as well. There was a tornado that went thru the area couple years back and knocked down quite a...
We camped both years in a bumper pull. While there are not Tons of spots we did t have an issue getting a spot. Both of her ek were approx 1 mile walk from the truck, but after killed, able to get 4-wheeler close or pickup so the pack outs were easy
