Yup - first trip (hopefully not the last - wish I was in driving distance - love that country). You're probably right. It definitely got easier to find them the longer the trip went on. They are tough to spot. Many thanks!
Good call on the black tail hunt. Easily one of the best adventures I've ever done. I went to Kodiak but the bucks on POW seem to have more of a mule deer conformation to their antlers. Have you been there before?
I think I did something wrong down there... I saw two nice bucks and a few does but that was it... sounds like you were on a ton of deer. Were you hunting near water?
Don't know if you got any info on Moose hunts? I hunted Moose up in the Brooks Range just south of ANWR back in 2016 solo (fly in drop camp). Didn't get my moose but I was on an incredible bull for about 7 of the 9 days out there. Bit lesson for me was that I should have brought a pack raft...
Just drew Unit 66 2nd Rifle season with 12 points. I'm looking at the unit map and Google Earth and it looks like the North is pretty much BLM with no trees... seems odd compared to the alpine areas I've hunted in the past... the south of the unit is all wilderness... I can move a lot faster...
I didn't call it ... but I did draw unit 66... Mule Deer - second rifle... would love to hear any advice if you've been to that general area before... also how'd you do?
