I heard from an authoritative source that the number of applications for hunts in NM were 60,000 more than last year. Guess folks want to go hunting because jobs are shutdown with Covid, still. Stupid virus!
Well, the NM results came out yesterday (4/20) and mine were RED, ie. unsuccessful for an Antelope tag. If anybody got one and can't do the hunt and you want to give it to someone (not sure that's possible but gotta ask), I'm ready, willing, and somewhat able. Let me know.
I lived in AK for 15 years and the only moose I harvested were cows. The bulls get pretty rank if you're hunting after the rut starts. They're also really reactive to anybody getting close. Numerous friends have horror stories of being charged.
I lived in Alaska for 15 years and hunted Moose nearly every year. We had a great processor in Anchorage that was a German. He made up everything you could imagine and it was all outstanding. Corned brisket, the best moose hot dogs ever, all kinds of German sausage, roasts, steaks, burger...
Very nice buck. Applied for a tag in the NE corner where you went for this years hunt. If I don't get a tag I'm going to try private land but the price will be the issue. You're very fortunate to get that trophy, great story too.
Central New Mexico location, hopefully getting an Antelope tag this year. If not, will probably pay a private land owner to hunt, if I can afford the price. Formerly from Alaska where I lived from '74 on. Hunted and fished every year up there. Regs in New Mexico are quite a bit more strict...
