    High elevation appetite

There are a few studies out there that suggest when the oxygen level in the blood falls at higher elevation a hypoxia induced factor (HIF1) hormone is released that stimulates the hormone, Leptin, to be produced from your fat tissue. Elevated Leptin levels in the blood can reduce your appetite...

    RMEF donation for kenetrek boots

I recently became a life member of RMEF and received a gift certificate for kenetrek hardscrabble hiker boots. A $475.95 value according to RMEF. I would rather this money go back to RMEF then redeem my gift certificate. So if anyone wants a pair of kenetrek boots and wants their money going...

First ever elk hunt, CO-Unit 67

Thank you. They did. He woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t catch his breath after stoking the fire. You could hear him gurgling when he tried to breathe but no frothy pink sputum. We pretty much descended immediately and got to the Gunnison ED 2 hours later. He was better with...

First ever elk hunt, CO-Unit 67

The hunt was a lot of fun, but access on the west side of sawtooth mountain was difficult due to private land intersecting the road ways. There is a main county road from Gunnison that got a lot of traffic from road hunters. We got off the beaten path about six miles but the majority of elk sign...

First ever elk hunt, CO-Unit 67

I have read about buying all terrain tires? Do people feel that is worth it? I have 1 year old tires that do well in the snow here in MN, but obviously that’s a lot different than forest service roads in colorado in November. Any other tips, I’m learning as much as I can and appreciate...

First ever elk hunt, CO-Unit 67

Thanks! I’m coming from Minnesota so I’m comfortable with snow and cold but not sure what to expect as far as roads and how much snow to expect. Thanks for the heads up!

First ever elk hunt, CO-Unit 67

Hello All, I drew a bull elk tag for unit 67, second season rifle. My dad, a buddy, and his dad all have tags and are headed to the unit in October. This will be my first ever elk hunt. I'm coming from the midwest and have been reading and studying elk and elk hunting as much as I can. We play...

First time elk hunting, Archery or rifle?

Hello all, I'm a flatlander from the midwest and my buddy and I are taking our dads on our first elk hunt to Colorado next fall. We originally planned to do Archery, thought bugles would help us find the elk along with a lot of e-scouting. However, the more I research and learn, I'm a little...

Montana voter initiative for corner crossing.

Randy, How hard would it be to develop a stamp for access? Is that something RMEF could lead or would that infringe on their IRS status? In Minnesota, we have "Walk-in Access" land. You pay three dollars and get your WIA stamp and can then access private land enrolled in the WIA program. Has...

A Financial break for Hunter Recruitment?

I appreciate all the candid discussion on the post. Lots of directions this conversation could go. I was coming at it from someone who struggles with time and other commitments but now has the financial means to go compared to my younger self who had the time, but not the financial means. I...

    Tom's finding hens

It is the hens job to find the Tom and decide when she is ready to breed. Most tom's will respond to yelps from a hen with a gobble to let them know where they are. Hens will then usually move in and when in visual sight of the tom he begins strutting to show his stuff and bring them in. If the...

A Financial break for Hunter Recruitment?

It is no secret; the number of hunters is declining. According to the National Survey of Hunting, Fishing, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation, we have lost 2.2 million hunters between 2011 to 2016. Baby Boomers make up roughly 1/3 of all hunters and we know they are aging. What does that matter...

    What's your go-to Hunting Pack?

I've been doing the exact same thing as GMBbowhunter#7 and no problems with the zippers at all. The waist belt on the Master Ranch pack can't be beat. Love how small I can make the beartooth 80, but can also fit a 4 person tent and all my gear for a 5-8 day backpack hunt.

Hunting Public land when you have access to private land?

Not unethical, but a kind gesture to those who have no other options.
