    2024 Colorado Draw Results Thread

Got a ewe tag a couple hours away with an unusually long season, gonna have to do some scouting this spring/summer. Been meaning to become a rmbs member, this'll be the impetus to make it happen. Can't make any of the events, though, it's a long way to the front range.

    Yellowstone Club coming to Colorado.

A SW facing ski area? Sounds like a short season.

    Yellowstone Club coming to Colorado.

Psh, 697 homes as members? Sounds crowded compared to Cimarron Mountain Club...

    Cats Aren't Trophies

Damn, if you're gonna call someone an embarrassment and put it in all caps, at least spell it right. This forum has spell check, how do these things happen?

Smith River Permit - Non-resident allocation

Saw people on a river forum expressing a desire for a preference point system for rivers (other than the grand). Don't do it!

    River Trip draws

Got a June 9 deso/gray, trying to determine if I can pull it off and/or if it'll be worth convincing my wife...

    App deadline tonight!

For rec.gov river permits, of course... Believe it is midnight mountain time. Got mine in for San Juan, deso/gray, middle salmon, yampa/gates of lodore.

How long did it take for your first elk?

Got my first, a cow, this year. Fifth year, fifth tag, hunted every day of each season (until this one), but they're short Colorado rifle seasons. Hadn't ever hunted before that first otc bull tag, and no mentor, so it has been a steep learning curve.

    Fifth time's the charm

After I got the trim, neck, quarters, backstraps, and tenderloins and moved it all a few hundred yards and hung it in a tree, it was 6:30, just after sunset. Yes, I’m a slow butcher. I brilliantly decided that I’d carry my rifle, all my day-hunting gear, a rear quarter, and the backstraps and...

    Fifth time's the charm

Not wanting to bump them again with the shifty winds, I backtracked to the bottom of the meadow to investigate the other bugling I had heard that morning. Wandered for a while, didn’t find anything exciting, so around 10:30 I decided to head back towards the other side of the basin where I...

    Fifth time's the charm

In the meantime, I talked a lot of elk hunting with my new boss, who knows the unit and elk in general way better than I likely ever will. Amongst other advice, he pitched me on checking out a different, closer-to-home section of the unit. While there would surely be hunters, he thought the...

    Fifth time's the charm

Apologies for the long-windedness, but I don’t contribute much so gotta share sometime! My career as a hunter started when my wife and I moved to Southwest CO in the fall of 2019. I had no job, and decided somewhat randomly that I should try to contribute to the household by getting us an elk...

    What to do in Maine?

Similar idea, but farther west, one of my favorite spots in the state: https://www.cobbspiercepondcamps.com/

    Leftover CO

Huh? Like we should all lose interest in CO tags because some parts of the state had a bad winter?

    Leftover CO

I did get a 76 rifle tag! ...cow second rifle, but hey, when you're 0/4 lifetime on elk, that seems like a pretty good chance. Just around the (long) corner for me in Bayfield, so I'll be able to get up there a time or two to scout.

    Maui is burning.

Ugh, my friend's mom had two small, amazing houses in Lahaina right on the beach. They're gone, but at least she was out of the state.

    monsoons

Finally got our first real monsoon rain yesterday near Durango at 7800'. So nice and mild now.

    Creek fishing

This weekend's creek in the San Juans. Not huge fish, but they sure were pretty.

R U in for the leftover draw?

Hit on my two secondary apps - late rifle whitetail doe and muzzleloader pronghorn buck (to go with my muzzy pronghorn doe tag in the same unit). Didn't even try for elk, now have two pronghorn and two deer tags, even though elk are my greater obsession. Still hoping to be able to avoid OTC rifle...

    Girl meets Porcupine

Interesting, I'm going to try to never finger pull quills again, as within about half an hour of pulling some from my pup I had some sort of allergic reaction and lost my vision/couldn't keep my eyes open for a few hours. Anyone else allergic to porcupine quills?
