    Davis Tent

I'm about to order a 14x15 tent package from Davis. So this will include the stove. What upgrades would you recommend, for example windows, baffle for the stove, fan for stove, etc. Want to be able to use it from turkey through end of deer and elk season. Thanks Pete

    Montana gun shop

Any Montanans here who could recommend a good gun shop that knows their shotguns? I'm looking for someone that can help me understand and figure out what gun fits me best. I'm interested in a gun that will mostly be used for shooting clays but can serve me well in the field. Thx Pete

    Do we need wildlife?

The mule deer mismanagement discussion got me thinking. Well that, and I just finished watching Life on our Planet on Netflix. Does it really matter if we wipe out all the deer, elk, wolves and anything else that lives where people do? Think about it for a minute. I will pick on massachusetts...

I can't believe they can't fill these positions!

Is it me or is this job posting not the most encouraging? I'd probably re-word this if they actually want to hire anyone. It made me smile. HELENA – Do you like to be in the Montana outdoors working with hunters, anglers and boaters? Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking applicants to...

    Mule deer in heavy timber

The other day when I was hiking in to meet my son in law and to help him haul out his bear I came across some great mule deer sign. Heavily use game trails and fresh droppings the were practically the size of an elk. The area is heavily timbered, steep and full of deadfall. I'm thinking this...

    First bear

So I'm home doing some work when I get a call from my son in law. He and his friend were out on the backside of a nearby mountain hunting grouse. They brought a rifle just in case they came across a deer or bear. Well no deer. But there was a bear. 20 yard shot. He sent me the coordinates...

    Access question national forest

In this case in Montana, but I suspect it applies to any state. The question relates to actual forestry roads that are numbered and labeled on maps. We were driving on one of the forestry roads and had plans to take a road that branches of it. When we got to it had a gate. Not a forestry...

    Used wall tent

I have an opportunity to purchase a Montana canvas wall tent with a stove for about 600 bucks from a friend. I have not set it up yet, but we have it in the garage and plan to put it up in the next couple of days. It will be coming with us in a couple of weeks for a four day hunt. I have...

    Wife's first time

My wife Cathy has decided to hunt this year for the first time ever, at the ripe young age of 57. So we took her out this morning to try to find an antelope. The plan was to have my son in law be her guide, since he already tagged out, and I would go off on my own in the same area to try to...

    Not quite backcountry hunting

You know who you are. You drove from New York to hunt in Montana. You hiked in a whopping half mile with your buddies. All of you are sporting brand new tipi tents and cookware and you are set up in the middle of an atv/ hiking trail. Not only did you do that, you built a fire right above a...

    Pillow help

This aging body just can't get a good night sleep in the backcountry anymore without a good pillow. I'm sick and tired of waking up a dozen times a night due to discomfort. I've been using inflatables but they work, well like an inflatable. They suck. Can anybody suggest something soft and...

    Some Wyoming camping

Six days. Creek fishing and mountain biking. What a beautiful place. Hungry little fish, 48 degree water and a 2wt fiberglass rod. Nothing better if your not hunting.
