CO Unit 43 Early-Mid Sept Archery
I was the same as you about 4 years ago. From VA, came out to 43 for my 1st elk archery hunt and we had a blast. It got me hooked and have been to a different state each year hunting since. It took us the 1st 2 days to really learn the area, but we found elk the 3rd day and every day... -

NM unit 49 Archery
Brother and I ended up drawing an 1st season archery in unit 49. We're pretty pumped. Looking over the maps/google earth of the area seems to be a lot of logging roads? anybody with knowledge of the unit on what to expect when it comes to access and getting away from open gated roads? quickly... -

Colorado unit 551
headed to 551 for archery from VA. I've hunted other parts of CO numerous times, but let my wife pick this years trip by where she wanted to apply. looking forward to new area. I'll get back to with any tips for the area come the end of September for you and your son. -

Had a friend drive through the area and send some pics, and everything is so green. Looking at weather history reports and noticed they(and pretty much the rest of the midwest) have received abnormally high rain totals so far this year compared to years past. We're getting excited. -

Yeah, I'v hunted other units that had ATV/moto trails, and its never been an issue getting away from them. I've just noticed this unit has more than usual. i imagine once you get away it fine, but it's something thats been worrying me until i'm there -

the wife has drawn an archery tag in unit 551 in CO. I've been doing a bit of studying for the trip, and noticed there are a lot of motorcyle/atv trials in some good looking parts. does anybody know if these heavily used? we're typically off the rd typically 2-5 miles from the truck with boots...
