    Today's Eagle

Walking the bird dog this morning... We found a bird! Eagle was very cooperative about posing for photos. He was perched overlooking the Wenatchee River, Chelan County Washington. Eagles and osprey both like that river and the Columbia as well. Regards, Guy

    This Morning's Ram

Was out to walk my dog north of town today and was fortunate enough to find five rams hanging out together. They were pretty cooperative about posing for photos. I was less than 100 yards from them and the sun was just about perfect for photography. Perhaps someday I'll draw the tag. Until then...

    223 Trainer, 100 yard group:

For those who don't know, I work with Gavin Gear at Ultimate Reloader. It's a website and a YouTube channel. It's his baby, he created it about ten years ago. He's brought a few of us on to help him during this past year. He pays me to handload, shoot, write about it, make firearms related...

1948 Report on Deer Ammo Results:

"The only factory load which, in our records, established a 100 percent effective record of deer stopping, over a five-year survey period, was the U.S.C. Co 145 grain Hollow-Copper Point, later loaded by Winchester. Even when handloaded to velocities as low as 2600 f.s.m.v. or to as high as 3100...

    Handload info...

Have had requests for some of my load data. I'm just going to keep on referring those detailed questions to the loading manuals where there's all sorts of great info. That's where I get my load data - other folks can as well. I'll often mention the bullet I used, maybe the powder, and if it's...

    His First Pheasants

Today I took a young man on his first bird hunt. His dad is an old law-enforcement friend of mine and can't walk real well right now, so I took him. Maverick pointed five pheasants, sadly I missed one and the young fellow couldn't shoot because I was in the way. So, we got four. Maverick...

    Whitetail ?

Just to get everyone interested in hunting this season, a buck I photographed a few weeks ago: What are you using for whitetail this year? And where are you going? If I get out for them, it will be here in Washington state. Guy

Ruger Number One, mule deer buck

This 64 year old with a bum leg managed to stalk & shoot the buck. :) About 150 yards. One shot. Handloaded 160 gr Sierra Game King at about 3050 fps from the 7mm Rem Mag. I was in a modified sitting/kneeling position on a steep slope. Wrapped the Montana Sling around my arm to steady the...

"Brandy" 7mm Ruger Number One at 300 yards

Recently put a lightly used 3.5-10x Leupold on Brandy, the 20 year old Ruger 1-S Medium Sporter I purchased last winter. Also had some 160 grain handloads to try at the range. Dog and I put the rifle in the Jeep and headed to the gun club for some shooting! Sighted the rifle in at 25 yards...

    Bear Season!

Washington's bear season starts August 1st, right around the corner! My son and I have done well on black bear here in Washington before and I hope to hunt pretty seriously for bear again this year. No baiting allowed. No hound hunting either here. So, it's "spot and stalk" for the most part...
