    OTC hunt

I found someone to go on my Colorado deer hunt on this forum, so you never know. Nothing's ever guaranteed in fair chase hunting, especially for elk, and I think most elk hunters are OK with that.

    OTC hunt

Take somebody with you if you're going to pack in more than a mile. It's an awful lot of meat to carry out yourself and depending on the temps it may go bad before you get it all out. Or, consider renting llamas. Antero Llama in Salida, CO rents them for $60/day and they will carry up to 80...

Just Joined, I got an Ibex Permit for the Florida Mountains, and I am super nervous

You get some sense of what's in store from brymore's pic. You can drive around the Floridas, but you see how much elevation you gain in hardly any distance. In places you go from the plains at 4800 to the peak at 6400 in as little as 1/2 mile.

New watch +altimeter +heart rate monitor -GPS ???

In what price range? Also, what else do you want it to do - barometer, downloaded maps, GPS, storm alert, elevation, elevation profiles, topo contours, compass, sunrise/sunset times, motion counting... Most of the better watches have several features with the Fenix 5X maybe the king of the...

Consider yourself enormously fortunate, ibex are one of the most spectacular trophies and terribly hard to draw. Good luck!

    Is outdoor hunting tv dead?

I watch two hunting shows - Randy's on YouTube and Eastmans' Hunting TV on cable. I've tried a lot more, but nothing I care for. Lots of the shows have about 2 minutes of worthwhile footage and the other 20 minutes is just filler that ought to be on the cutting room floor. I don't care to...

New Mexico Draw Deadline Approaching (Mar. 21st)

I'll be trying my hand at aoudad (barbary sheep), good in units 32, 34, 36, 37 next Feb. and several OTC units before then

    New Mexico Draw 2018

Aoudad for me, the 100 tag. I hear it's a tough hunt, but I'm really looking forward to it. Any info or insight is welcome since I've never hunted them before

    New Mexico Ibex

Yeah, that nonresident nanny tag price is completely ridiculous. But if you think that's bad, a bighorn ewe hunt is $3173 for nonresidents. I wonder sometimes how high a price it takes for the total revenue to start to drop because enough people are unwilling to pay it. If people are willing...

    Sleeping bags

Down bag protected in a dry bag, then with a a tent floor, good sleeping pad and good tent site. Highly recommend a Spiral Down Hugger in the highest down fill power you can afford and a temp rating on the bag at least 20 degrees lower than the lowest temps you expect.

    Packable non mummy bag

Here's the second most packable and comfortable down bag you can buy - expensive as heck but it stretches with you so you can stretch out your legs to the side and it will go with you. I've never been so comfortable and it packs way down. The 900 fill is $150 more and it is the best. It only...

    Phone, GPS, inReach, Onx... Help!

I try to text or briefly call my wife every day because I know how much it means to her for me to be thinking of her occasionally, and her definition of occasionally is more frequent than mine, but once a day seems to work well. If I was hunting in grizzly country, say outside of Yellowstone...

    DIY muzzleloader Mule deer CO

The hunting in 74 for ML is best around timberline, which is 11,500 ft. If you're from the East, that elevation is a serious matter, especially if you plan on hunting solo. Be sure to take a water filter and drink as much water as you can on your way and when you get there, because it is dry...

    Is it just me ?

Go to the CPW website and look at the brochure, draw and harvest reports and the hunt atlas, also the NW or SW regional hunt guides. If you want it boiled down and consolidated for you, subscribe to Eastmans' Hunting and Bowhunting Journals and look in the online editions for the Members...

    Wyoming antelope unit 19 ??

I've found game wardens may not return calls to out of state numbers, especially in Colorado. Depends on the warden, though because others I've called have been great. A better bet is to call the local BLM office and ask who covers the area you have in mind. I've even had a BLM office make me...

    Arizona Mule Deer in August

The units for OTC archery deer are generally not great. Most have very low success rates, average is 12%, but hey, it beats being behind a desk. The OTC archery hunts are listed in the brochure and you can find the success rates in the Hunt Arizona starting on page 38. You'll find a few units...

    Solar powered phone charger

I usually like this site's reviews. I was surprised they didn't rate the Goal Zero higher and they don't seem too bothered by the weight of these, but they do make some good points about which are easier to charge, whether they are finicky about total sun, speed of charge and such. Most people...
