I haven’t seen it mentioned here, but I bought an El Coyote 10 degree last year. Quality is excellent, great customer service, American made, and I slept into the lower teens this winter and was plenty warm in it. I highly recommend them.
I load 180 accubonds into Nosler brass with 4831sc. I’m loading them longer than book and IIRC I’m getting compressed loads ~66.5 grains. If you’re worried about it change powders now because you’ll compressing low/mid range loads with the accubonds to.
After looking at the ones on SPS for a couple months I finally bought 500 a couple weeks ago. They all have their tips and the only blemishes I see is the black worn off in some areas. None of mine have a cannelure.
I just mounted up a set the other day, shot with them today. They seem as solid as the Warnes I have on my other rifles which I have no complaints about.
Dirtclod I’ll be javelina hunting for a week in Tx this coming February, hoping it won’t be that hot here!
What state do you live in Gila?
If we would have more than 4 days to hunt we could have waited the crap weather out. Again all part of the learning process I think. We learned a...
I hope the synopsis of this very brief hunt can be helpful for someone, if not, at least y'all can chuckle at a couple non residents.
A hunting buddy and I went on our first out of state hunt this past week to western Wyoming in search of black bear. Leading up to that point I had done a ton...
We will probably be out the second week of archery elk season so i will have to keep an eye out for successful elk hunters. Will bears scavenge off of other dead bears?
Thanks for the tips. I went ahead and ordered elk cow/calf call. We wont be setting up a bait site, but I have considered some type of attractant. I will have to see if a honey burn is considered baiting or not there. Might be helpful if we find sign but aren't seeing bears.
Things are coming together for my first spot/stalk hunt. A friend and I will be hunting in western Wyoming for black bear this year. We have the unit it picked out and have been doing as much research as possible, including reading the Ultimate Guide to Black Bear Hunting by Douglas Boze...
I've started doing some load development on my Tikka T3x in 300wsm. H4831, 180gr accubonds loaded to mag length and fed 215's. Did a ladder test yesterday and found a good node right at and 0.1gr above max load according to my Nosler 6 book with no pressure signs. 69.7, 69.9 and 70.1 gr got me...
Remington 700 in 7 mag. Made the poor decision of not shooting it for several months after purchasing it, and by the time I did I had already upgraded the stock to an hs precision, converted it to a bdl, and dropped a timney trigger into it only to find out the chamber had a burr in it and...
All of my Redding seater dies have the capability to crimp, including the ones for my 7 mag. You can turn it out enough that it wont, but if he has the die turned in to far it will crimp and could be happening before the bullet is fully seated, leading to the shavings.
I've got a remington 700 that's currently chambered in 7mm rem mag. Needs a new barrel and I'm debating on going with another 7mm, thinking either RUM or 28 Nosler, or something in a 338 flavor.
Have no need for either, but this currently unusable 700 action is burning a hole in my pocket...
It will vary. Nitghtime temps where I had tags this year were in the teens the first couple nights I would have been there, after that in the upper 20's and 30's. I dont have the intention on hunting when temps are less than that, but I'd rather have the extra insulation in case things were to...
Now that I'm looking at those EE quilts, I feel like that may be the way to go. Price is roughly the same and the quilts seem more versatile? My plan was to buy a 10 degree bag and run a liner if needed as I tend to sleep cold.
If I went with the revelation I think I'd go with a 0 degree...
