Finally first Elk hunt, harder than you think!!!

Congratulations. Steeling oneself on a solo hunt to stick it out when uncomfortable and things aren’t coming together is a success in itself.

    Disabled Veteran Montana Cow Permit

The reason for surrendering it is nearly as bad as it gets but the thought of a DAV filling it was an easy choice. One of 25 as I recall. Certainly should see animals. Next I need to find out if Colorado has a similar program. Still need to turn back a mule deer permit.

    Disabled Veteran Montana Cow Permit

Yesterday I donated a Game Range cow permit to the Helena office. They don’t get a lot of requests for donated cow permits but it should be a reasonably fillable tag if someone qualifies and is interested. First week of November on the Front.

    2023 Colorado deer information

Thanks, It was Friday that I called Denver office wondering why I couldn’t get through…lol I will keep trying. Just anxious to start gathering more information. I try to have a list of meaningful questions written down when reaching the biologist. Seems to help a lot.

    2023 Colorado deer information

Thanks for that. I did see the well pads but wasn’t sure if they are still as active as in the past. yes, I still light up but actually pulling the trigger isn’t as important as it once was, but I do want the opportunity.

    2023 Colorado deer information

I am 75 and will be a month shy of 76 this season. I have been burning my points as quickly as I can in numerous states. I’ve had some fun hunts in multiple states over the years but I know it’s coming to an end. As bitter a taste it is I‘ve been blessed. I abandoned a lot of points in Utah and...

    Joe Picket

I enjoyed my trips to 10 Sleep on a hunt after reading the Longmire and Joe Pickett novels but replacing Nate Romanowsky with a black actor just killed it for me. I mean please… It was similar to having the Bosch series with an actor of small stature. He did a good job but while reading the...

    Montana Scout About

Tanning snake skins is easy, just watch a few YouTube on it. You can buy the stuff guys sell on-line or at shows, but it is most likely just glycerin and alcohol. I keep a jar of it in the garage and just freshen it up or change it out once in a while. I have a skin in there now that just needs...

Got my first good NM Deer tag

Look south of the E/W highway. and yes the SJ is a blue ribbon fishery. You might enjoy swinging by Abe’s and Fishheads… BTW, I’m sure you will have fun. I saw a lot of bucks during rifle and not all of them had migrated in.

    Belated Honeymoon to Italy

Great information so many of my suggestions have been covered several times. Do drive the Amalfi coast and visit/stay in Positano. Florence is not to be missed. Here is a tip to hang onto your wallet/cash/credit cards. If you see a sign warning “Beware of Pickpockets“ in a crowded area, Do not...

Got my first good NM Deer tag

I hunted the rifle tag a few years ago. When I talked to the warden/biologist he called the first weekend a beer can hunt (meaning when a hunter opens his truck door to shoot a deer from the road, beer cans fall out). Wasn’t far off. If you see the gas rig trucks chaining up on the gravel roads...

    Gear Clearout

Not my experience. If priced fairly and someone knows the value it cuts the BS offers out. Especially on large items like a vehicle. Some cultures expect to haggle. I have no problem with that and depending where, I am fine with it. Actually love haggling on both sides of buying and selling. Pay...
