Lightweight backpacking tent options
I'll weigh in on one thing re floor-less tents: if you're in the south and expecting to stay at campgrounds ever (even non-campgrounds that are commonly used for camping) then rodents can be an issue w/ floorless tents. If you're out in the wilds then it's all good.- trasko

Small/mid-size trucks, best all around
OP IMO you've landed on the best "bang for the buck" small/mid-size truck. Frontier. It's undervalued compared to the Taco. It's adequate for what you've specified. It'll do what you want. If it were me I'd just get a midsize SUV hybrid. (or even wagon/hatchback). Get 30-38mpg, keep the...- trasko

Wearing Contacts in the Backcountry?
Are y'all putting in contacts in < 10F in the pre-dawn hours camping? I gave up this trip. I can do it mid-day if I'm back at camp but first thing in the morning I just stick with glasses. I hope (and think) this is not true. I put my Yakima track system through the thick part of my ARE and it's stout. I wouldn't use it for lots of heavy, long lumber but short of that it's been great. Also, despite being a bit iffy, I do lift the shell of my truck with a hoist by the rack...- trasko

Thanks folks for the feedback. Sounds like most people really just don't like their appearance on the landscape. Quite understandable.
