I could do that too, though I’ve taken a few elk with the .270 and i feel like it lacks the knock down power
I don’t reload, so this is helpful, thanks!
Ok, good to know, I just worry about availability of ammo for this gun. I could just get a new scope for this one and see what happens, do you think this a good caliber for larger game like elk and caribou?
Alright, I've done my work at home and convinced my wife that buying a new hunting rifle and scope is a great idea...she bit and I've got the green light to get what I want! Problem is, I'm not a huge "gun guy," as every firearm I have is a hand-me-down from my dad. I know, what a terrible...
I don't have her hunting quite yet, but I'm working on it...she didn't even ask to go until the night before. I was planning on solo hunting, so I was happy for the company and an extra set of eyes!
Well the great state of Wyoming did not disappoint when it came to the quantity of antelope. They were truly everywhere, unfortunately when you are hunting a unit with limited public land it can be a little frustrating. The hunt started with my brother-in-law, my cousin and I heading to...
Had the opportunity to harvest this buck opening morning last weekend in Colorado. My sister wanted to go with me, her first big game hunt, and she ended up spotting this guy on the horizon about 1/2 of a mile away. He was slowly making his way away from us, but didn't seem to be in a big...
Just wanted to let everyone know that I contacted the game and fish departments from both sides (Montana and Wyoming) and got the OK on this. No issues traveling back and forth across states lines as long as you adhere to the appropriate rules on both sides. I just wanted to follow up. Mike
Thanks everyone for your responses! I think I am going to go with the ALPS Commander....I can get it on Amazon Prime for just a shade cheaper than on Midway. I'll try and post a review once I've used it for three hunts this fall.
My go to meal for any cubed game meat is red chile, meat and potatoes with a side of tortilla(s).
Being from New Mexico I love red chile....try making a simple red chile sauce (link for recipe here: https://www.newmexico.org/things-to-do/food/recipes/red-chile-sauce/), make some camp potatoes...
I have a late season, December, hunt for cow elk. I've only been hunting elk for a few years, but managed to get a cow a few years ago. Though I can't help but feel like that was just luck. It is my understanding that the elk should be herding up at this time in the year and the best strategy...
General question, I found some BLM land I want to hunt but can't access it from the state I am hunting...I can however access it from another state since the unit is on a state line. Basically I would park on BLM land in the state I am not hunting and walk to access the BLM land I want to hunt...
Hey All - I am looking for an affordable frame backpack to start my collection. The intended use of this backpack would be light storage for day trips and backing out game meat. I have an elk, deer and antelope tag this year, but the units are generally flat spot and stalk types of units and I...
bobbydean - I was born and raised in Albuquerque, fourth generation NM, went to college at NMSU and I've had the pleasure of chasing desert muleys in 33 a lot. What a great unit!
Hey all, lifelong outdoors man here, grew up in NM hunting and flyfishing and now live in CO. Here to help and share information when I can help out. I have some experience hunting southeast and central NM. Excited to be here and to share the wealth. Keep it public! Mike
Hey guys...first post, but I spent some CO preference points for a cow elk tag in northwest CO, units 2/201. I was wondering if anyone had hunted this area before in December? I've hunted 3/301 to the east of these units, but it seems like different terrain and there is a ton of ground to...
