    Pack workouts

Makes sure you take your workout materials out before the hunt. I was 2k ft of elevation gain and several miles from the truck when we stopped for lunch on day three found a 2# ankle weight in the bottom of my pack.

    5th wheel travel trailer construction

Yeah - buddy of mine did it for a year then did the math on his per night expenses 😳. It’s a different conversation if you are mainly going full time vs just recreation.

rifle for beginner/youth- bolt? single shot? other?

We live in the shotgun area of Michigan and both my boys started with a youth model 870 20 gauge shooting slugs. Things have changed and straight wall cartridges are legal now so my daughter gets to use a ruger compact bolt action in 350 legend with a suppressor. Recoil is virtually nonexistent.

    Wall tent stoves

Yeah I agree biggest decision is to determine if you want a 75 lb stove or a 15 lb stove. We have been running a Knico stove that is the Alaskan model and I does what you are suggesting but it is similar to the Riley in that it sheet metal so it doesn’t hold the heat like a cylinder stove or...

    Fire starters

I have used cotton balls and vaseline. For a better alternative I saw a YouTube video on making fire starters from makeup wipes with wax and charcoal lighter fluid . They end up as wax covered disc that you can stack in a metal pellet container or dip container. Pretty easy to make a batch...

See if you can have them donate the land to the nature conservancy. That way it stays undeveloped, they have zero tax burden, and their dads aspersions remain intact.

    Educate me on packs

I realize this is an old thread but need to put a plug in for an old Dana Design pack. I am 6’5” and most current packs aren’t designed for a long torso. The older Dana Design packs in a correct size are super tough packs that are very comfortable.
