    Traveling to Alaska with firearms

This is spot on. I travelled through with 4 rifles and 2 shotguns. Those were no big deal. I had my uncle send me a hand gun to an FFL up here. I wasn’t about to try and get one through.

DIY on Kenai peninsula in August

+1 for trustworthy Hardware here in Soldotna. It’s a great little store that always has the best prices on fishing gear. If you decide to invest on a flipping stick, that’s the place to go. The Russian River falls is a nice easy hike. Hang out there long enough and you get some good brown bear...

Who uses an AR style rifle for hunting?

My uncle has this exact setup. Rock river arms 223. It’s a fun gun to shoot. Almost no recoil, it’s very accurate, and the follow up shots are way faster than a bolt action. IMO its a great option for coyotes and prairie dogs.

    Kodiak - Lodge - Deer

I've been meaning to post some pictures and a write up about my Kodiak trip last fall. Myself and three others went to zachar bay and had a blast. I would have to agree with your friend on the severe winter kill during the previous winter. We came home with a total of 9 deer but the other...

    Trekking poles

I borrowed a set this year in Kodiak. They really helped for the heavy loads on the way downhill. Another feature that's nice is that they also act as a shield when navigating your way through the alders and thick brush.

I was in exactly the same position as you only i had the size 10.5 granite. The boots just didn't fit my feet well and I only had about 60 miles in them. I sent my boots in requesting an 11. They said if you have purchased them within one year or had 75% life left on the tread they would...

    Moving to AK

Finally made it up last Wednesday. Been busy getting organized and started the new job last Monday. The drive really wasn't that bad. Just 5 long days of driving. No flats or trouble with the pickup and trailer. As others have said the Milepost book was invaluable. Also travel on the...
