Ohioan looking for WY Pronghorn partner

Thanks TopGun. I have been researching it. Initially I was just looking at buck tags. Then I switched to just leftover tags. I never considered the both of them. So I'll look at that now. I appreciate you trying to clarify. R

Aye Yai Yai! So are the doe drawings separate / different then the buck drawing? (I know leftovers are a separate issue) Are the odds the same? Do you just specify buck or doe when you apply? Who would apply for a doe tag then if the odd were the same?

Thanks Topgun! I didn't realize they had buck leftovers. Are those typically in hard to access units? Doing a lot of satellite scouting but the roads thru private land have me nervous. I need to call the wardens and biologist to get some advice on that with particular units.

Do you still get 2 doe if you don't draw? If so that would be the ticket for me because I don't plan on drawing a decent unit this year, just hunting does. That is why I was going to do left overs.

That sounds good. Did you go solo last year? Left over tags? Rob

Ohioan looking for WY Pronghorn partner

Ha ha! Thanks guys. A big benefit of partnering on this trip would be to share the drive and cut that time. It's looking like a 24 hour trip, and I'm not the road warrior I was, so I'm looking at 2 days instead of 1 to get there. I'll just have to extend the trip to 9 days to get a good 4...

Ohioan looking for WY Pronghorn partner

Hi, I'm going to do a WY pronghorn hunt with leftover tags this year. I'll be leaving from eastern Ohio. Probably 7-9 days total, including travel. I'm going to apply for draw but not expecting to. I'd rather accumulate the points and have a sure plan in place, rather then hope to draw on a...

Do they let us know what units will have left over tags right after draw results? I'll be coming a long way so just want to make sure I'll be able to get a left over tag, as this is my first year there.

PAGOAT, if you don't mind, where did you find info that it was 100% special tags? I found the 2014 Harvest report for that area off the map link but it doesn't list special tags - just type 1 or type 6.

Well it looks like I'll be heading to Wyoming then. Navigating the draw results, maps, and reports now. Wow, your game departments are in a whole other field then ours. We don't have anything like this. There is one annual report with the total numbers killed, broken down into counties and...

I can't do the special draw at this time. I don't mind walking quite a way, especially if it means not rubbing shoulders with other hunters. Some of my best hunts were grueling. I'm definitely open to doe tags. Meat is meat to me. But I haven't had pronghorn. Is there a big difference btw...

We don't have that problem here in the East, it's all private! No seriously, most of it is. I've been learning alot from Randy's podcast about this issue. Hunting a piece of public land that isn't a pumpkin patch of orange excites me!

Thanks for the tip. The draw odds for unit 1 and 2 look good. Some of The public land looks pock marked there though so a good gps like you said is in order. Do you buy over the counter tags when you go? I think I'm good with the equipment you listed and may throw in a spotting scope. I...

I guess eating liver and heart prevent me from finding my game gamey. I usually enjoy long walks and don't have dogs.

Excellent info and ideas. Thanks guys. Sounds like a few more hours drive is the way to go. The chances for a good draw for a non res in a decent area in SD for pronghorn don't look great.

Hey guys, Great forum you have here. I didn't see in introduction thread so I'll do it here. I started listening to Randy's podcast after hearing an interview of him on another podcast. Now I'm hooked. Learning a lot. I was going to do an Elk hunt as a graduation present (grad school) but I...
