I 2nd the Reddington rods. They are quality and the price isn't too bad. I have several of them and have used the lifetime warranty many times.
That said for a first rod to decide if somebody really likes it, I wouldn't hesitate to go with this...
As others have mentioned you will know it when you see a big one. I spotted mine last year from about 2 miles away and I knew instantly that it was one to go after.
Not sure if anybody mentioned Meopta. I got tired of reading through the posturing and BS so didn't finish all the comments.
I bought a pair of Meopta Optika HD and am very happy with them. They are a quality glass without the huge price tag. Meopta of course have different levels.
Does...
I have 6 cameras up there and with the closures I can't get to them. Usually I take all my cameras down before archery starts because I am busy hunting and I'm always concerned people will find them. Not looking like I'm going to be able to get to them before archery this year.
I seem to be afflicted with the same thing.
Considering the archery season starts in almost exactly a month for any people that draw FWP is pushing it out as far as possible. And no, I'm not talking about the 900 tags, those are already drawn, but the people that want a district tag and wish...
Yes, this! I used to be very against a statewide sales tax to cover this but with all the tourists in the summer that come here and most towns not taxing them I think it is needed. I think many Montanans have changed their stance on this for the same reason. While it used to mean political...
Really it applies to both. The front shoulders on a mature billy look bigger than the rear on that same goat. They probably actually aren't by weight but the chest is just bigger. This also applies when compared to a nanny. The front shoulders are bigger on a mature billy when compared to a...
After you look at enough goats, it is fairly obvious when you see a truly mature billy. The younger ones can be almost impossible to tell for sure, but a mature billy sticks out. Horseface, not cute, bigger front shoulders in my experience and thicker horns.
Not sure where you are located...
Elk B tag for me which was a surprise, usually I have to wait about 4 or 5 years between tags. With my oldest sons first year of being able to hunt elk this could be a fun one.
Like most things the cost and investment varies greatly from top of the line to budget in flyfishing gear. I would start with one rod, something around a 5 or 6 weight to find out if you like it or not. Go with a cheaper set up to start, don't get the cheapest one but you don't need that fancy...
Took my kids on a similar trip just over a year ago off the coast of Bonaire. We caught a bunch of Red Snapper off the bottom up to almost 300 feet down and then trolled for a bit and my youngest at the time at 7 years old caught a wahoo and I got a sailfish. It was a great time that they...
I have 3 that I use, each for their own purpose. I have an Eberlestock Just One pack. I use that for day hunts that I can pack out a quarter with when I get something down. I have a Mystery Ranch Bob Marshall for my backpacking hunts. It is a huge pack and will carry way more than you can...
We had a guy like this in town when I was growing up. During the season we would be driving back home out of the woods in the dark and he would be headed in. I distinctly remember the light blue truck and he always had a spotlight in the passenger seat whenever I saw it in town. Everybody in...
This right here! This is the problem in Montana. We used to be able to shoot does and now we can't, and we used to see bucks and now we don't. But now that we don't see the bucks to shoot we should be able to shoot the does.
I'm not sure my sarcasm is coming through properly here.
You do...
Not last year, but I have for each of the 15 years before that. I have talked to folks that hunted it before then. Typical Montana, there is not many deer on the public land, the private has some but the area should hold a lot more deer.
There's 2 big problems with using the Region 3 numbers for this. One, this is 3 districts, not all of region 3. These 3 districts have been ravaged by fire in the last 20 years. The population of both elk and deer is down from before that time. The 2nd big problem is assuming the FWP data is...
