I know I'm getting ahead of myself but I have a question for those few of you who have taken a desert sheep. Is the meat good to eat? Does it taste like mutton?
I do like lamb chops but those come from fairly young lambs.
Day 1 looking over some good looking elk country. Only spotted a cow and calf.
Day 2 ankle is quite broken. 🤬 Spent 7 hours at the ER in Ely.
It's going to require surgery. Needless to say elk hunt is over on morning of day 2.
For anyone interested I returned my NV mule deer buck tag today. It is for area 101-109 and season runs from Oct.31-Nov. 8. This will leave us more time to fully concentrate on my bull elk and then my desert bighorn. (y)
I don't know if it will come up on FCFS or if it will be offered to an...
As some of you may know I was awarded a much coveted desert bighorn sheep tag someone turned back in.
My hunt unit is about 20 minutes from my house and I plan to get an idea of the few roads there are, it's not a very big unit.
Hunt actually starts on the last day of my bull elk hunt, Nov...
Just found out Tina Turner died today. She was one heck of a performer. :(
My wife and I saw her at the MGM a while ago and she put on a fantastic show.
Just wanted to share a pic of my son who ran a 50k ultra marathon just outside of Zion last weekend, his first.
Some of the guys from last years Hot Shot crew ran the half marathon and finished in a few hours but they all waited for my son to finish his 8.5 hour run. (y)
He wasn't really feeling...
We went in the Scheel's in Reno yesterday and I saw that they has a pretty decent supply of 30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, 308 and several others that I didn't go down the aisle to check out. They also had a lot of .22 in several brands.
If you're in the area you may want to check them out.
With all these threads about the near impossibility of drawing a sheep tag I'm wondering how many of you guys would hunt for a broken horn ram?
When going through the NV hunts for this year I saw there is a new resident only hunt for rams where one horn must be less than half the length of the...
We had to make the very painful decision to let go of our great companion of only 4 years.
We noticed a couple of small lumps on his throat and took him to our vet. He suspected lymphoma because his lymph nodes behind the knees were enlarged and recommended a biopsy and we were hoping for the...
A few pics of the cow elk my brother took in Oct. with the help of myself and my son's strong, young back.
I'm always amazed at how many bulls are seen when when you have a cow tag.
Yeah well to me he's still my boy. ;)
Got to spend a few days fishing with my son before he starts on roll-outs with the BLM wildland fire crew.
In spite of the wind we caught some nice trout and he caught a nice bass which he released. Tuesday afternoon was great but Wed. and Thurs. there were...
My son and I went out and did some quail and chukar chasing for a few days. Unfortunately the wind was horrendous. My son managed to knock down a single quail. I knocked down a 1 chukar but it hit the ground running and we were not able to find it. :( The hills also seem to be getting steeper...
