Let's Hear About your favorite Wheel guns.

I've got a Ruger Vaquero in .44 mag that I bet I have shot thousands of rounds through. As a kid my dad and I competed in Cowboy Action Shooting (both state champs at different times). He cast his own bullets, and of those thousands of rounds I've shot through that gun, I bet 95% of them have...

    2026 sasuage and processing thread

There is in fact one Sausage Mountain in the United States of America – a summit with an elevation of 925 feet in Butte County, California. As of the other evening though, our Country’s highest Sausage Mountain resided in Jefferson County, Montana. Formed over eons measuring millions of...

    This will make you smile

That's incredible and moving. Today's my grandpa's birthday and he would've been 105 today, but I haven't heard his voice for 22 years now, not even in dreams. Is someone cutting onions in here? Thanks for sharing.

2025 - A Season to Remember (or forget)

Adventures, experiences, and purpose - I’d say that’s a season to remember. I hope your wife and mother-in-law are doing better. Stinks about the bull. We joke on this site all the time that archery season is wounding season, and of course it depends on the hunter, but it almost seems...

    Sunday Pic of the Day

Christmas with the in-laws before real Christmas. My 8 year old nephew got me peanut butter and whiskey, which is beautiful.

    Wolf Toleration

I think it is interesting that 74% of Montanans tolerate wolves, but an exact same proportion of Montanans (74%), still support lethal control. As someone who believes it's perfectly fine to hunt and trap wolves, I would wager that the percentage of those who tolerate wolves would be quite...

    What are you currently reading?

No power or cell signal last night and today due to wind damage, so I picked this up and read it for the first time in 30 years. I read three short stories: “The Heathen”, “Lost Face”, and “A Piece of Steak”, and damn if Jack London wasn’t great.

    358 winchester

I hunt with a .358 Winchester Ruger M77. Been shooting 200gr Barnes TSX. I don't reload so I buy them, but it's 2675 fps at the muzzle. Zeroed at 200 yds it's 2.1" high at 100 and 8.9" low at 300. It's sexy and puts holes in things. All these were one shot and it was over.

‘I Didn’t Vote for This’: A Revolt Against DOGE Cuts, Deep in Trump Country

Seeing Terry take a fair bit of flack on social media for taking part in the article in the OP, and thinking about this thread, I think if folks are to change their minds on things it is a tightrope to walk when communicating the outcomes of their decisions. I just don't know if "I told you so!"...

    Quintessential Western Whitetail?

Quintessential: Representing the typical example of a quality or class, embodying the pure, essential nature of something: I am not a great deer hunter or hunter at all, but after 20+ years of shooting mule deer every year I am on year 6 of shooting just whitetails in Western Montana. Western...

‘I Didn’t Vote for This’: A Revolt Against DOGE Cuts, Deep in Trump Country

I've only been allowed to vote for 23 years, but I've yet to experience a national election that wasn't a version of Pick Yer Idiocy, though it seems to get worse every go-round. That is if you want to put your name down for a side that could plausibly win. I haven't picked a winner for over a...

‘I Didn’t Vote for This’: A Revolt Against DOGE Cuts, Deep in Trump Country

I’ve met Terry as well. Seems like a good guy who does a lot of the things celebrated on this site. There’s a lot of damage being done and a lot of good has lost momentum and a lot of knowledge lost. I don’t know if the disappointment of certain folks who voted for Trump will really matter in...

    How bout them Ling ???

Annual resurrection. Caught 7 ling and one rainbow in about 3 hours of fishing. Kept 3. Most were pretty small. When I first posted on this thread 11 years ago, I spent most of those nights helping kids catch fish. Reel it in, land it, get it off the hook, rebait it. Now I just watch them...

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

Definitely quibbleable with what the word "Right" means, but we kind of have a Right to an opportunity, and I don't think requiring a Montanan to pay more than a tank of gas worth of money, or less than 10% of their hunting season's beer budget, runs against that.
