Was going to check out the KUIU stuff this weekend if they are open. I have the pack-able rain suede right now but it leaked like a sieve during a 4 hour storm when I was out turkey hunting this spring.
I have hunt with both my 30-06's... one an old Savage 110L and my newer Browning A-bolt. I prefer to hunt with a muzzle-loader now and use a TC Omega 50 cal. Handgun of choice is my 45 LC Peacemaker. Shotguns are a 44 cal or 12 gauges.
Well this is "base camp" we are talking about..... For Me, I am in base camp only before or after the hunt. When the hunt is on I am all about light weight backpacking and Mt. House meals do the trick... MRE's cannot compare... been there ate them. Instant breakfast in the morning, cliff bars...
Ok I would recommend if you don't have one get a 3 burner camp stove like Camp Chef with the 2 burner griddle and bring your BBQ. Hopfully you have pots and pans. Menu for breakfast- cold cereal, instant oatmeal, pancakes, bacon, eggs, sasuage, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, danishes, donuts; mix and...

Black Diamond makes a couple for a little over 2.5 lbs... FirstLight, HiLight.

I have a couple of the Black Diamonds that I use and have had...
I concur that "ballistic tips" are a under weight bullet that breaks apart when it hits bone on big game like elk. Look at the "partition" for elk... it has served me well on the elk I have shot...nothing over a 50 yrd. pile up.
ARCAT.. As for Utah you can use any scope that has NON-Magnifying Optics... red dots are good as long as they are non-magnifying, Holographics are good as well as "iron sites". You can use sabots, balls, conicals... pellets or loose powder.
