    Mule deer opportunity?

Just curious, are there a lot of coyotes in that area? I know it’s more than just that, but I’ve been feeling more and more every year that the ever increasing number of coyotes seemingly everywhere is having a major effect on fawns.

Bowhunters - not a big impact?

I love bowhunting, but it takes a big toll in MT, particularly for antelope and elk. I’m amazed at how many guys I talk to that don’t seem to have any concern about flinging arrows and wounding. Im not going to be a total hypocrite. I’ve wounded before with quick shot opportunities I shouldn’t...

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

It’s pretty crazy how much extra we’re all paying for homes, property taxes, cars, food, etc. compared to 10 years ago, but the thought of an extra $10-15 for a deer tag makes people’s heads spin.

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

I think our legislature as a whole cares almost nothing for the resource beyond the money it can make.

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

The more I learn about what many other states do to collect data, proactively manage to get ahead of problems, and put the resource first(or at least not last), I’m kind of speechless how we compare.

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

This seems like something that would be easy to add in the offseason. So much useful data that would take anyone less than 2 minutes to enter in an online survey.

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

Date of kill, species, unit, public/private/bma would be good info imo.

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

The resident hunters where I live are much safer and less of a threat on the roads since they drive through the fields and pastures. 😂🤦‍♂️

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

The parking horror stories are not exaggerations. I went out for a late season duck hunt last fall in the snow. In a 20 mile stretch, I came up over a small hill and almost hit a truck from Georgia that had parked in their lane and just took off pheasant hunting with their truck left on the...

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

haha! Most of these guys just get their general. I can’t believe we’re still giving out whitetail doe tags valid for a whole region when they’re really struggling in most of region 6. I have to give them credit for stopping those tag sales after ehd came through though.

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

That could be true, although I’m not sure anything will be improving enough any time soon to cause that. I think this is why it’s important to come at this from different angles such as reduction of non res(as was done), more restrictive seasons for res and non res alike, and spreading out...

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

It would be interesting. We get a lot of non resident, western MT resident, and local resident pressure. At this point, I’ll take any option that reduces pressure. I think non residents having to apply for region specific tags with quotas by region and the same for residents or residents pick...

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

There are more and more residents I know of every year choosing to not fill their tags because of what’s left out there to hunt. Theres so much pressure on accessible land that it unfortunately makes little if any difference.

Reduction in number of NR deer licenses

I wonder how bad the legislature and FWP would have our herds managed if it wasn’t for a couple good commissioners and the few resident hunters that really put themselves out there to fight bad proposals. We might not even have gophers to hunt under that scenario.

    Deer - lets see em

Had a really tuff time finding anything decent his year, but our oldest and I turned one up the second to last day and he made a good quick shot after belly crawling though a bunch of snow.

Extreme hunting pressure in region 7.

Talking to different landowners and hunters along with my own observations this year in northern region 6, I’d say a lot of areas are about 20-30% of what they were two years ago. Some pockets weren’t as noticeably bad while others seemed worse than that.

    Low Density, High Hopes

This is awesome! Congrats on a great bull and nice write up too.

    As they lay

Monday. Thankfully it drifted enough to block off some of the trails to the road hunters. Might save a few bucks this year hopefully.

    As they lay

When you judge each point and beam to be 1-2” longer than they are, there’s a fair bit of ground shrinkage.😂 Oh well. That’s nothing new for me.

What size holes in your grinding plate you use?

I use the plate with the larger holes and grind everything twice through. I do that for burger, sausage, ground jerkey, salami, etc.
