    7mm recoil help

I put a muzzle brake on my 7MM RM Browning X-Bolt. It's a dream to shoot. You can watch the bullet impact through the scope, the recoil is so light.

    Age and Elevation

At 72, I'm am a huge believer in Wilderness Athlete products. Altitude Advantage, start taking it a few days before you arrive at camp. Hydrate and Recover, my friends and I call it Hydrate and Pee Double. I also take Midnight Build to help with muscle recovery after a strenuous day of hunting...

Rifle Sling vs Pack Gun Bearer

Ditch the sling and the bipod. Gunbearer all the way.

    Kifaru

I have two Kifaru Spike Camp packs up for sale. These are great internal frame day packs that can be used to pack out game. I have packed out mule deer, caribou and elk on these packs. When the Spike Camp first came out, Patrick Smith, the founder of Kifaru, advertised them with a picture...

Anyone ever use a table saw to cut arrows?

If you're buying a mini chop saw, why not just buy the right tool for the job?

    7mm sst bullets

I would not use the SST. They will kill an elk too dead. Nothing worse than a deader than dead elk. I'll stick to Bergers in my 7MM. Bergers kill an elk just the right amount of dead.

    First Archery Elk hunt

+ one on the fixed blades. I use Slick Trick Magnums. They fly just like a field point out of a tuned bow. I'm not a believer in heavy arrows. My arrows weigh just 370 gr and fly right through elk up to 50 yards that I know of for sure, and probably farther. The last elk I arrowed, it went...

Boom sticks are cool...but show off your bow!

Hoyt RX1 Turbo. I keep looking at newer bows, but this thing weighs just 3.9 lbs bare. The 32 1/4 ATA is a happy medium between the too short 30's and the too heavy 34's.

    Garmin GPSMAP 64s

Best GPS ever. I love the push button controls. No need to take off the gloves to operate. I own 2. Good luck with the sale.

Nevada FCFS Virtually Dead for NRs

It's variable. Calculated based upon the ratio of resident applicants vs non-resident applicants in each hunt on a moving average over a 3 year period. In other words, we can never know. In 2022, the early mule deer hunt in 114 was 60/6, 121 was 40/2 and 131 was 45/1...

Steel shot vs. lead and others- Lethality

Steel doesn't perform nearly as well as lead in my experience on ducks and geese. Longer range shots that would result in a dead bird with lead, would show feathers raked over most of the body with steel and a bird continuing to fly. But nothing is as deadly as HeviShot. That stuff flat knocks...

    Arizona credit card

Last night, I was looking at the NM site to figure out where I wanted to apply for a hail Mary. This morning, I can't wait for the portal to be updated so I can see if I drew an early archery or late archery tag. There is still hope.

    Montana vs Arizona??

Apply every year you want to hunt in NM because they have no point system. You have the same chance as anyone to draw a tag. I know NV can be expensive, but their draw system gives you a chance to draw even with zero points and only gets better as you accumulate points. The odd thing about NV...

Archery - Where to start - first year elk hunting

I wish I would have started when I was 26 instead of 50. Good on you. Apply in as many states as you can afford to start building points, AZ, NV, UT, CO & WY. You can apply in ID & NM every year since they don't have a point system. In 10 years, you will start drawing tags pretty much every...

    Cheap Great rifles

I've had several Browning A-Bolts and X-Bolts that all drove tacks with factory ammo! Except one, an A-Bolt Medallion in .338 WM. Killed 2 elk and 2 oryx with it out to 300 yards, but couldn't punch paper under an inch. It was too pretty to using as a hunting rifle anyway.

I think the Peerless came out before the 332. Been sitting in my safe for 21 years.
