1st painting of the year. Started this last year but had very little time to devote to this. Until the 2 weeks in Charleston over Christmas holiday.
Finished him up today. I happy with it. Inks on Archer Hot press
Back in the day when I was hunting a grass air strip and dropping 60-80 deer a season, it hard to remember them all. I was told to start keeping a log but I'm not much for that. 25-30 years later I can look at most sizable mounts and or European mount and just racks hanging I can recall just...
Love working this one. A lot of glazing, detail with a limited pallet. I started this back in June right after the last elk painting and it has set. Shop has kept me very busy. So on vacation for 2 weeks in sunny Charleston SC I've put some time in on this. Still a bit to do.
I have a studio where I restore painting, porcelain and gold leaf objects.
Latest painting. 1882 French painting. It had chemical damage which removed paint down to the gesso coat. Work with thin glaze coats to bring back the hazel background. Then clear coat in a Archival varnish.
Is been a busy year. My son and his wife have a new little girl 8 weeks old. Moved into a new home in the Va. Countryside and I helped Jarrod build a loft for our breeding pair of birds at the shop.
So the 1st 2 are at there new home and settled in. Soon to be let out to fly.
The winter Fox, my wife claimed this one but a lot of friends are asking for prints

Hearing nothing all morning with my granddaughter and son with me. Trying to get her her 1st bird. Just wasn't happening. Then it happened so quick. I picked my gun up and Jon said he's going to shoot and it was over. Skylar had this look on her face of amazement.
My 1st coyote.
Birds shut down around 6:30 , I had 5 or 6 birds gobbling, they started about 5:30. I was looking forward to a morning of gobbling. At 6:50 4 hens came walking in with a nice mature Tom in tow. He took a dirt nap.
My brother from another mother Phil and I doubled up this morning on a mature pair of brothers. I love turkey season. The old 1,2,3 layed them both out.
62 years hunting with Phil, my bird sported 4 beards.
Planning on a long ride out to Coarsegold California to meet up with an old friend and then we'll both be riding to Sturgis and and then the ride home. I haven't made the trip to Sturgis since 2019 and started getting back to working out with a trainer. Most likely a good 45 day trip. I don't...
So the rut is on in the east. 1 freak taken by a friend. On the farm and I'm heading back down the weekend hunting a 16 point. This time Unburden by what could have been.
