What is acceptable accuracy in your opinion

My rifle is better than me. It was a 1.5” group at 200 last time at the range, but that was front and back rests, on a table with a chair. The gun is more than acceptable. I would ethically struggle with choosing a 2 MOA rifle for western hunting, but would (and have) used slug guns with bigger...

    Wild Harvest Cook-off

That sounds fantastic. Now you’ve got me thinking- what would I cook for something like this? Stroganoff? Osso buko? Meatballs? Chile Colorado? So many choices.

    Hooked a log? Nope- sauger

    There was current. 😉

    Hooked a log? Nope- sauger

    About like walleye.

    Hooked a log? Nope- sauger

Definitely a good day. But even though it was pale, it lacked the white spot on the tail and black spot at the base of the dorsal that saugeye have. The thing you see on the dorsal is a tag- waiting to hear back from FWP on that.

    Hooked a log? Nope- sauger

I think we had 15 or more over the 20” mark. Less then half, but not too much less.

    Hooked a log? Nope- sauger

It was hit and miss on if they were pale like that or fully camo’d up. Some were chunky, some were cigars. But they were all pure sauger, not a hybrid or walleye to be seen.

    Hooked a log? Nope- sauger

Global warming means it’s over 60 degrees in mid November. So rather than beat my head against the wall with deer, I accepted the invite from a college buddy to head out in the boat and chase smallmouth and sauger. I thought this was a wild goose chase. Turns out- it was lights out. Started out...

UTV Riders want trails in Fish Creek WMA acquired from TNC

They spent money on their hobby, so it’s their right to use that toy wherever they feel like, impacts be damned. Same reasoning as wakeboats.

UTV Riders want trails in Fish Creek WMA acquired from TNC

Fish Creek WMA was acquired from TNC in 2013 for creation of a WMA. Then FWP carved out a chunk to make a state park. Now motorized interest groups want more roads- at last 500 signatures on a petition from the UTV crowd. Which makes me wonder- why even bother calling this a WMA if...

Are tungsten turkey loads worth the money?

My problem with personally using it is it goes against what makes turkey hunting fun- fooling them and getting them in close. My problem with others using it is the increased range- plenty of negligent discharges every year where folks get peppered by hunters not properly identifying the...

    ‘25-‘26 Upland Bird Thread

Hey now… The orvis came from Costco, the tablecloth is a torn up cardboard box that has a few bullet holes, and it doubles as a plate to keep the tailgate seasoning (mud and blood) off of the food.

Whats with E bikes in whitetail hunting?

Nah. You’re probably smart enough to take the backpack, rather than just stuffing pockets only to sit on the Christmas tree cakes and crush them somewhere during the morning.

    Corner crossing SCOTUS appeal

I believe the UIA only applies to federal lands, not state.

Whats with E bikes in whitetail hunting?

The people I’m referencing don’t think like that. They think “it’s cold, I’m going to be cold. I need to dress for the cold.” And never consider that moving might make them warm enough they should lose a layer to walk in. Or take a backpack to carry the Little Debbie’s.

    ‘25-‘26 Upland Bird Thread

I’ve been scarred by one too many flavorless (at best) meals of mystery goop that involved those two things. I just can’t bring myself to use that combination ever again.
