Zinke intends to move BLM HQ, etc

Don’t count your headless chickens until they hatch. https://www.gjsentinel.com/breaking/blm-jobs-including-leadership-moving-to-grand-junction/article_908df730-a7f4-11e9-afa1-e7088d6d3561.html

Zinke intends to move BLM HQ, etc

Appears it may only be a portion of the DC office moving to GJ. https://www.gjsentinel.com/breaking/update-blm-office-moving-to-grand-junction/article_e2261a10-a73a-11e9-b945-2b1b12c92990.html#tncms-source=article-nav-next

This is what's wrong with hunting.

I wouldn’t hunt 30 yards from property I didn’t have permission to access with archery equipment. Of all the animals I’ve shot or seen others shoot with a bow, most go considerably farther than that even when hit in the right spot. Animals tend to continue in the same direction after the shot...

    Seating Depth

Have you determined how far out you can seat bullets before you reach the lands or if the magazine length limits how long your rounds can be? Weatherboard rifles in the past had a lot of freebore which made seating some bullets close to the lands impossible without being too long to fit in the...

    Seating Depth

I’m my opinion, .05 is too course of an adjustment at one time. .02 would be my choice. Did you happen to do a ladder or OCW test or did you just shoot individual groups?

Eastman's: Worst Big Game Reporting State

Believe whatever you want, but implying CPW biologists are negligent or incompetent by not requiring mandatory surveys is unjustified. Our game issues are people, disease, and predator issues, not lack of data issues. Big game is managed at the population level, not the individual level. It...

Eastman's: Worst Big Game Reporting State

Anybody else out there pick up on the irony that there is an ongoing thread about climate change in which some members are actively defending scientific conclusions based on extemely complex models and simultaneously denigrating other scientists in this thread because they don’t like their...

Population Growth and Hunting in Rocky Mountain States

Sure, if you can explain to me how fewer people advocating for a public resource in the future will somehow ensure its perpetual existence at current levels.

Population Growth and Hunting in Rocky Mountain States

Most of the deer and elk herds in Colorado seem to have survived thus far due to most of the population increase occurring on the front range where animals don't need to migrate long distances to survive the winter. Unfortunately, we may have already passed the point of no return for some herds...

    Better glass or more magnification?

At 400 yards with 10x magnification, a deer will appear about the same as a deer would at 40 yards with no magnification. Can you shoot at 40 yards without magnification, of course you can. 10x is plenty of magnification for big game.

An idea to make public lands more profitable

Hmm. I didn’t realize they brought it back. Maybe it will work out this time.

An idea to make public lands more profitable

In the late 1990s or early 2000s, some national forests in the Pacific Northwest sold recreation passes for $20. The passes were required to use some trailheads, campgrounds, etc. They dropped it after a few years due to the cost of enforcement vs the revenue they created. I think it was called...

CO - Tag Allocation R v. NR - CORA Data

NR elk tags are the funding sources for a lot more than just elk management in CO. Fish stocking, access programs, etc are all benefit from NR elk tag sales in Colorado.

CO - Tag Allocation R v. NR - CORA Data

No, you’re not the only one. The trend definitely is less opportunity for residents though. It was only a few years ago when the commission increased the landowner and NR allocation. Now it seems likely the commission will shorten 2nd and 3rd rifle seasons to test a theory that it will help get...

CO - Tag Allocation R v. NR - CORA Data

This is what I do every year. If I fill the A tag, the rifle B tag doesn’t get used. Most of the archers I know do the same thing every year also. I only know a couple people who buy both the archery OTC list A and B tags.

CO - Tag Allocation R v. NR - CORA Data

Thanks Wllm1313 for putting this all together. I agree that the 30,000 foot view is appropriate for this exercise. I don’t see the number of hunters with or without list B tags as important in this instance. Crowding is subjective and based on the perception of individuals. There is no...

    My Two-year HOWA Experiment

Muzzle velocity varies even with the same model factory rifle shooting the identical ammo. As chamber reamers wear down during manufacturing, chamber volume decreases which increases pressure which increases velocity. The issue of people not validating the drop of their loads at extended...
