    Blackhorn/TC Pro hunter range day

I have read a lot of negative reports on Blackhorn 209, but that is the only powder I have found that does not foul the barrel on my Encore too bad to load shot number 2. Before BH 209, and after breaking a ball starter trying to reload for a second chance at a buck I had missed, I actually...

Scope advice for my new rifle. The NEW Savage Model 110 Long Range Hunter with Accufit stock in .300 WSM

WVgoodguy22, I am in WV, too, and I have a SWFA 3-9 you could check out if you make it to my area of the State. I have only shot it out to 300 yds so far, but I think it should work fine for me out to at least 500. I know that is a lower magnification than you are looking for but PM me if...

    Anticipation is killing me

The least “clunky” rifle I have ever handled as far as feel in the hand is my Remington 700 Ti. The bolt is on the wrong side but that light weight and the rounded bottom on the ADL stock where the floorplate is on a BDL sure is nice. The titanium action is kind of rough but I can live with that.

And, in case anyone asks if you have seen any, that is pronounced, “pah-trij” 😀

Scope advice for my new rifle. The NEW Savage Model 110 Long Range Hunter with Accufit stock in .300 WSM

I don’t like the looks of 50mm objectives on 1” tubes but, if you go with a Leupold 4.5-14, I would suggest the 50mm. I have an older 4.5-14x40. The view is pretty dim at 14 power in shadows and near sunrise/sunset. Welcome to Huntalk and good luck in Idaho.

Idaho unit 11 Mule deer rut

I had the late tag in 2013. I saw several bucks but none I would call big. Despite what I saw (or didn’t see), I do see photos every once in a while of good bucks taken in Unit 11. So, I know some are around. We hunted from the river and from the top. If you do not have your own boat or a...

    Hello From Virginia

Welcome from West Virginia. To break into hunting the West, you could visit your daughter in May or September and add a spot and stalk bear hunt to your trip.

    Leupold vs. Vortex Warranty work

I have had several Leupold scopes. I am happy to say that I have never needed warranty work on any of them. I did send a 4.5-14 to the Custom Shop to have a M1 elevation turret added. When it came back, my stock windage dial said “Up” instead of “R” in front of the arrow. I am living with...

    MIL reticle scope suggestion

Midwayusa.com has the Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50 with the TMR reticle for $750. I have one on a 308 and I like it. Unfortunately, it has mismatched M1 MOA dials. I think you could get those replaced with M5 MIL dials by the Custom Shop and still be under $1000. I have not had any tracking...

    Maine Moose!

You will need to research camping since a lot/most of the ground is private. There were only certain designated camp sites in the North Maine Woods and, in September, a lot of those were taken. It is quite a bit different from the hunting and camping on National Forest land that I am familiar with.

    Maine Moose!

How far will you be traveling to get there and how do you plan to travel/transport your moose? When I had a tag there, I researched camps/camping in the North Maine Woods and meat processors. We wound up renting a small cabin but we did stay one night at a North Maine Woods camping spot prior...
