    Chasing Elk - Opinions Sought

There are some good archery hunts you can draw in Montana with your points. You might be able to pull a decent Wyoming limited entry area as well. Maybe consider Colorado with a muzzleloader. I would save the Arizona points till 2031 and try and draw an archery tag then.

    OnX Hunt Research Tools

After seeing how bad the Onx research tools were I bought a subscription to Hunterstrailhead. Simple website to use, cheap, and easy to see draw odds

    Pennsylvania Elk Tags

I live in NY and have been applying for 6 years. Having to buy a non resident license is ridiculous for how terrible the odds are. They should allow you to apply with the 7 day small game license at least instead of the full yearly big game license

    OnX Hunt Research Tools

I’ve been on it a few times and really dislike it. I refuse to pay for gohunt, it’s too expensive for me. Anyone use Hunters Trailhead for odds or another site?

Best (and Worst) Muzzleloading Bullet Experiences

I’ve had pretty good accuracy with Barnes bullets shooting from a TC Impact. 78 grains by weight of blackhorn 209 and I use a Burris scope with ballistic reticles. I’m comfortable out to 200 with it but wouldn’t shoot past that.

Ethics of removing tree stands from public land

I’ve been hiking recently and have found tons of stands on public here in NY. I think guys leave them up trying to claim the spot. It’s annoying because they are usually in good spots. I have no problem setting my stand up near theirs if it’s a worthwhile spot. I always take mine down at the end...

Muzzleloader recommendation for elk under $1500

I own 2 muzzleloaders. One is a .50 cal TC Impact with a Burris 3x9 scope that I’ve taken a Bull elk and 2 deer with. I just recently bought a Knight ultralight .52 cal from a friend that I put a Williams peep sight on and plan on using in Colorado or Nee Mexico. If I was to buy another I would...

Cottontail Rabbits Round Out The Hunting Season

This year I’ve taken 2 rabbits and had a few more chances at more here in downstate NY. I hunt without a dog. Last year I didn’t get any and went out a bunch in February.

    Bullets for muzzleloaders

This past season I had a muzzleloader elk hunt in Arizona and I used Barnes .50 cal 290 grain bullets on the Bull elk I shot. It was only a 70 yard shot but he dropped 5 yards from where I hit him. Ended up being a heart shot. I did not get a full pass thru but the bullet tore him up inside. I...

Nevada - Is it Worth it?

I can’t justify paying for Nevadas annual license to apply and build points. Odds are horrible for many many years. Occasionally I will apply for a few antelope and elk hunts in Nevada and skip buying the license. I don’t build points but at least I throw my name in the hat for cheap
