I don’t trust anyone to mount my scopes. I bought all the tools to do it even though I may only do it a dozen times in my life. If you buy quality rings you shouldn’t need to lap them and they will tell you as much in the mounting instructions.
I won a Pointer Sporting O/U 28 gauge at a banquet and I have been pretty impressed with weight and reliability. I'm not a cheap gun guy and normally use a Cynergy but find it too heavy for grouse walks. The Pointer Killed a lot of grouse. My FIL has the Stevens 555 in 20. No complaints from him.
More deer are seen out west, per hunting trip, due to topography and cover. The furthest I can see in a typical Wisconsin hunting day is 50-75 yards in front of me, which ends up with me seeing 2-3 deer per day. If the topography of Wisconsin was like east Montana, I would be seeing 100-200...
I jumped around quite a bit when I was first married with the wife but we never made it out west.
Wisconsin to Minnesota to Florida to Minnesota to Oregon to Louisiana...... all to end back up in Wisconsin. I like visiting other places but definitely need to stay put if I ever want to retire.
