    Packing Questions?

When we go in a wilderness, we ride one horse and pack a horse. We have a bag we tie on the back of the saddle on the horse we ride. On the pack horse, we have either a saddle pannier or packsaddle with panniers. All our gear goes in these. We are generally in for a 4-6 day hunt and dont take...

    Digital Camcorders for Hunting

I have a canon zr50 mini DV, new models are probably out since I have had this a couple of years. The night feature is not as good as a Sony, but I dont use it anyway. The optical zoom is 22x and is great. I have a 2x doubler which gives me 44x optical. It goes to 440x digital without the...

    Idaho Southeast region

Thanks, Not sure what we will do this year. Would love to see the country, Idaho, Montana. But that is a long way from home, pulling horses. Makes for a long trip. Probably at least 2 days drive just to get there. Might be worth it though, if we could bag a 330 or so. I am sure they are there...

    Idaho Southeast region

Thanks guys, at least that is a start. Talked to the Game and Fish and they said the tags wont be sold out in Tex Creek until this summer. That might give me a chance to see if I draw NM first. I am going to call their biologist a call. It looks like 66 has some National Forest(Caibou)in it, but...

    Idaho Southeast region

Hi guys, need some help. I am from Tulsa and normally go to Colorado for elk, but we are tired of shooting junkheads. I have been successful in New Mexico, but the draw is tough. Anyway, if we dont draw out in NM, we are thinking about coming to Idaho hunt. It would probably be a gun hunt, as we...

    Oklahoma draw results

Well, we do have a drawing for elk in Oklahoma. Wichita mountains near Fort Sill. This was my 30th year of applying and still no draw. I have been putting in since I was 18 years old in 1972, but Bill Jordan can draw in one year. Go figure!! So, no draw in NM. Colorado here I come, again.

    what would you do?

I've taken my son for 2 years in Colorado, cant beat the out of state tag price, and I have watched him harvest 2 bull elk. Priceless. Take your son. He will learn more about life in an elk camp than he could ever at school. Research paper? How about an essay on his elk hunt, then you have...

    Hunting with Horses.......

Elkhunter, love the pics. I too hunt with horses, mainly for packing out of canyons. It is a whole lot easier to ride down towing a horse and ride out with the elk on the other horses back. I have this one horse, Roany, that is dead calm, put a hundred kids on him, crawl under him, over him...

Colorado Elk Harvest falls short again......

WH, What is your defination of hunting? Is calling a coyote in to 10 yards and shooting it with a shotgun hunting? How about sneaking around the woods and taking a limit of squirrels, or sitting behind a dozen duck decoys on a creek bank waiting in the freezing rain for a shot at a lone mallard...

Colorado Elk Harvest falls short again......

Well it has been quite a while since I posted, but I check in from time to time, so I would like to put in my opinion of Colorado's tag system. Suits me fine, but what I really like about it is the youth tags. My son (my $'s) can buy an out of state tag for $100, and I dont even have to buy one...

    Recurve Shooting

Hey 1-pointer, I have a Bighorn takedown 70# recurve I hunt with. Wooden arrows and Zwickey heads. It is deadly quiet. My only trouble is the amount of time I spend in the woods. Before marriage and kids, I used to have lots of time to go. Now I can just make time for the gun seasons on elk...

    Where to have hides tanned?

Hey guys, I have a lot of coyote hides just hanging and need to be tanned. I have used Tubari (New York) but they have increased to $25 a hide. Does anybody know where I could get them done cheaper? Tubari did a great job, nice and soft when they come back, even have a hair lightener if you...

Elkman, I load 105gr Reloader 25 behind a 300 gr Sierra Match King. Velocity is 2956 fps. The gun has a BAT action with a Krieger 1 in 10 twist barrel. McMillan stock and shoots this load incredible. Three shot groups are .137" to .240. Dont worry about the hollow point. That is 300 grains of...
