I checked with a couple of other guys who went to the Hunter's Show in Houston.... apparently there is an injunction on enforcing any I143 law until the case before the Montana Supreme court is resolved (I presume it is the Wallace case), so the court apparently has not ruled yet. The operation...
That's why I posted..... I was curious if it was true. I don't reckon that the operator was trying to drum up business in Houston this last weekend if he could not deliver the goods. It was the Yellowstone Ranch, near Sidney.
I spoke with a fenced elk operation this weekend who told me that I143 was overturned by the Montana Supreme Court and that he was back in business again....interesting....
By Golly I knew it was true!....You Montanans are so BAAAAAAAD....

I'm glad to see Wallace go down fighting whether he loses or not. Montana's law is confiscation without compensation plain and simple. Len Wallace (like him or not) is standing up for a number of game ranch owners who do not have the financial resources to fight the state in this case. What...
Tom - the place is the Camp Cooley Ranch and they were running cow eland specials last summer for $750. I hunted the place in October of '00 and my son took a 3 year old bull for $900 (I think)... I also shot an SCI book Wildebeest for $1600, but that price was a "once in a lifetime". Try...
I paid $900 for that eland. It was taken on a property in east central Texsas about 2 hours NW of Houston. It was a 3 year old bull, and there were older ones on the property for the same price. Meat hunts on this ranch were as low as $750 last year. Of course they have over 150 eland on the...
Just got back mu son's eland shoulder mount afte waiting 18 months... it is too big for the foyer and we are going to have to sell it. It is brand new with 20"horns (24" around the spiral) with 13" bases  It is mounted in an "alert" posture with a slight head turn to the left. Weight is...
They are not only the largest antelope in the world, they are about the best eating member of the antelope family. I just got back the shoulder mount of an eland my son took 18 months ago, and it is too big for the foyer! Anybody interested in this mount? Brand new...with 20" horns (24"...
I just got eland and wildebeest heads back from the taxidermist and I forgot how BIG those animals were (I've also got a red stag coming in about a month). How on earth do I mount them on the wall - I know I've got to find a wall stud, but these things are 40+lbs and even a big nail may not be...
I bought a 6' hog spear from the Cold Steel company. This was after I was getting ready to knife a hog when the catch dog let go - we suddenly had a REALLY pissed off 200 lb boar with 2 1/2" teeth in our faces... The spear at least gives you a few extra feet of space. I'm getting ready to hunt...
Yeah Tom, I know that from the way most animals act after getting arrowed there seems to be not a lot of distress.... I surely don't want to sound like I was condemning bow hunters at all - my messed up rotator cuff keeps me from being an archer.
The only thing though, is that I'd hate to...
You can use anything for those critters as you would for white/blacktails. I'd say anything from a .243 on up. I've used a .243, and a 6.5X55 Swedish Mauser.
It takes a big blackbuck to weigh 100 lbs. Most Sikas are <150lbs (except the Dybowski subspecies which is up to 100 lbs heavier)...
I enjoyed the story until I got to the part about the Nilgai still being alive 2 hours after it had been arrowed (another reason I don't do bow hunting, though I have no beef with those who do)- At least they finally put it down. Stories like that one play directly into the hands of the PETA...
Nut - I think you mean Cape Buffalo - the water kind lives in Asia/Australia... My son and I have been fortunate to take Eland, Scimitar Oryx and Wildebeest here in Texas (cheap too...if you want details, let me know). I'd really like to take a Cape Buffalo, Sable antelope, Kudu, and Gemsbok...
Unless you are bow hunting or going after turkeys or other such hunting where you have to get close, you don't need camo.... I've seen a lot of guides and hunters wearing blue jeans and some sort of "gimme" shirt as long as it isn't too light colored. IMHO the whole camo thing is blown WAY out...
Muledeer - Texas is eaten up with hogs! No season, no limits, no restriction on methods of take either. I prefer hunting with dogs and killing hogs with a knife or spear....
